    Sarcean’s eyes glitter, and he smiles down at him. It is like the sun, but- no. It is softer; Sarcean’s light could never burn. It’s the moon shone on waves of the sea; it is his warmest shawl worn in the coldest of winters, thawing him from the inside out. He’s only just realizing how desperately he’s needed to be thawed- how frozen over his heart has been, how blind his sight has been.

    Anharion’s chest convulses, lungs quaking as he tries to gather a full breath in one final, desperate attempt to keep his emotions at bay. But then Sarcean kisses him, softly, on his temple, and his eyes betray him.
