I’m proud of you, that’s what you said.
After many long nights, all the thoughts in my head,
Tossing and turning, unable to sleep,
When I’d bite on my pillow and silently weep.
I’m proud of you, that’s what you said.
When I’d felt so alone, at times wished I was dead,
Or to simply not be here, rather than die,
When the pain in my chest was so bad that I’d cry.
I’m proud of you, that’s what you said.
When you listened to all of my darkness and dread,
When you broke through the mirrors I’d built around me,
When you helped me to move, when you forced me to see.
I’m proud of you, that’s what you said.
While I struggled to follow, wherever you’ve led,
But you kept reaching out, although I did stumble,
The faith you placed in me never did seem to crumble.
I’m proud of you, that’s what you said.
As you guided me onward like needle to thread,
And I flew ‘cross the tapestry, painting your words,
Til they all became mine, like a thousand freed birds.
I’m proud of you, that’s what you said.
Even though there are more trials ahead,
And though we’ve faced many and you’ve been by my side,
Now you’re not here, may your words be my guide.
Now its my time to lead, my time to inspire,
To reach out to others, to fill them with fire,
You’ve been my trainer, my mentor, my lead,
Maybe even my hero, if I’m honest indeed,
And though I have struggled and sometimes till doubt,
That I’ve got what it takes, that I’m what we’re about,
I know what I’m here for and now I can see,
So I’m saying it for you: I’m so proud of me.
