Chapter Text
“Is it too late to ask for a TO swap?” Miles, Tim’s cocky rookie asked with a grin.
“Get your eyes off of Officer Chen, Texas. You’re not fit to breathe the same air. Go get us set up.” Tim scolded, putting him in his place.
Lucy chuckled after Miles walked away and shared that she was loving her odds.
Throughout the day, both rookies made mistakes. Ridley puked and contaminated a crime scene and unintentionally pointed the muzzle of his gun at Lucy.
Penn made a comment about shooting out the suspects tires, jumped out of the car while Tim was communicating, ran in Tim’s field of fire, and went to the driver’s side alone, leaving another escape for the suspect.
Coming up on the last hour of shift, a call came over the radio ‘reports of domestic violence at 231 S Rivington St. Neighbors called it in.”
”7-Adam-100 show us responding.”
Minutes later Tim and Miles pull up to the house. Multiple people are filming from their porches. A women and man each have a knife and are going at it.
“Dispatch, this is 7-Adam-100. Show us on the scene. Send an extra unit. Be advised there are two weapons.” Tim called through the radio.
“7-Adam-19 is in route.”
Not even two minutes later, Lucy and Seth speeds up in the shop with their lights and sirens on.
Lucy put the shop in park. “Now that we arrived. What do we do?” She asked her rookie as they got out.
“Try to talk them down. The goal is to get them to surrender the weapons themselves. If they comply, talk to them separately. We can only take them in if the other makes a report. If they don’t drop the knives and calm down, we take them both in.”
“Nice work”
-
Once they got the couple to drop the weapons; which thankfully wasn’t much of a hassle, Tim and his rookie took the guy to their shop to have a chat. Lucy and Seth took the women to talk in her living room, so they’d be separate.
“Can you tell me what happened, ma'am?” Lucy asked the woman.
”I work in construction. 90% of my job is made up of men. He gets mad that I hangout with men all day. The guys invited me to the bar last night with their wives. One of those wives happen to be my best friend. I crashed on her couch because I was too hammered to drive home. I got home an hour ago. He knows I don’t play around like that, so when he pulled out a knife so did I.”
-
“She’s always hanging around men, going out to the bar with men, staying the night at other men’s houses. That’s disrespectful!” The man shouted.
“Let me get this straight. You yell at your girlfriend and pull a knife out at her because she was having a night out with her friends? Do you not trust her?”
“How would you feel if your woman was doing what mine is?”
Looking dumbfounded, Tim spoke up, “Women aren’t property, Mr. Trapner. My wife works in a male dominated field, just like your girlfriend does. My wife hangs out with her male friends all the time, just as I spend time with my female friends. Threatening eachother with knives isn’t love, so unless you want to end up in handcuffs, I suggest you seek therapy or anger management.”
-
When Penn finished his paperwork, he ran into his fellow rookie in the men’s locker room. “Yo, dude. You’ll never believe it.”
”Believe what?”
”Drill sergeant Bradford is married.”
”Wait, how do you know that? I thought it he had a strict rule on no personal talk.”
”He said it himself. Said his wife works in a male dominated field.”
”So what you’re saying is that she could be anyone. You think she works with us? I mean law enforcement is male dominated.” Seth suggested.
Miles shrugged, “I don’t know, but whoever it is must be a good women to deal with him.”

Meanwhile, Tim and Lucy pulled into their garage at the same time. Lucy had finished her paperwork and left the station first. On her way home, she stopped for gas.
As soon as she heard the door open, the little girl came running out of her room, “Mommy, Daddy!”
“Hey, sweetheart” Tim chuckled, giving the 5 year old a hug and kiss on the forehead.
“How was school, baby?” Lucy asked her daughter.
“We had pizza for lunch and we got extra recess! Tam Tam got me and Miles ice cream after school!”
-
“Miles finally fell asleep and I just checked on Milah. She’s out like a light.” Lucy told her husband as she walked into an embrace.
“Lopez invited us out to the bar tonight. We could call Tamara to watch the kids while they sleep.”
”I’m exhausted. You go ahead and I’ll stay with the kids. She deserves a night out.”
”You deserve one too, babe, but I understand. You’ve been working overtime. You are a detective and Grey pulled you to train a rookie. You’ll be back at your desk in no time.”
”I’ll have a night out when Miles is done breastfeeding. At least it’s only at night now. Milah was done by 18 months. Miles is 4 months away from being two and I want him to be off of my boobs by then.”
”We’ll keep working with him. I won’t stay out too late. I love you.”
”I love you too.”
—
“Where’s Lucy?” Angela asked as Tim sat down at the table where Nyla, Celina, and Bailey, Wade, and Luna were also sat.
”Wanted to stay home with the kids. I can ask the same question for the rest of you.” The gruff sergeant replied.
“Wesley pissed me off, so I decided to have a night out without him.” The Latina detective shrugged.
”James’s ex wife is taking the boys on a month long trip to visit family, so he wants to spend as much time with them before they leave.”
”Henry and his fiancé are in town. They are preparing for the wedding. I encouraged John to stay home and spend some time with his son. I also just needed to talk to someone, but I’ll get to that in a bit.” Bailey explained, sipping on a water.
“And of course I wasn’t doing anything.” Celina announced.
“How was yours and Lucy’s first day with your new rookies?” Angela asked her best friend.
“I was ready to give Texas a blue page. He lit his duty manual on fire and threw it out the window. I mean shooting out tires, really? The virgin isn’t as bad although I will never admit it. He has a lot to learn, but at least he doesn’t need to be untrained and retrained. He contaminated a crime scene and is having a similar problem that Jackson had when he was a rookie. I’m worried that he’s gonna get her shot, but I know she can hold her own.”
”Jeez, was I that bad in the beginning?” Celina joked.
”Well, you did pull someone over and search their trunk based off a feeling. You ended up being right, but the evidence couldn’t be used to find the victim.” Nyla mentioned.
As time passes, more locals start entering the bar. Being a cop means knowing just as many people in a regular bar as you would a cop bar.
People from friendly neighbors to ex-cons. They typically only went to the cop bar if they were having a celebration with the station and other cop friends.
Tim sat in the corner nursing on his beer when Bailey started speaking, “I know I should be talking to John about this, but I need advice.”
”Sure” “what is it” the group said in unison.
”John and I have talked about having a baby, but ultimately we decided that maybe it wasn’t the best idea now that Jason and Oscar escaped. He wants me to go on deployment until they are apprehended, but I just found out that I’m pregnant a few days ago.”
They were all surprised to say the least and after a silent moment, Luna gave her advice, “First, I want to say congratulations. Secondly, a baby can be a wonderful thing, especially if it is what you both want. Jason and Oscar escaping must be extremely stressful. I know it is for Wade because he wants nothing but safety for all of you. I assume you aren’t going on deployment since you are pregnant, so if you need somewhere to stay while John is working, then you can come over to our house and Wade will assign a detail to stay with us. It’ll be safer than being on your own.”
”Thank you so much, Luna. Really. I just don’t know how to tell him that I’m carrying his child. I mean he already raised a kid. Henry is about to get married. This would be starting over.”
“Bailey” Nyla smiled. “Trust me when I say this. Nolan was my rookie and I know he will be thrilled to be a dad again. He might freak out at first, but he loves you and he will love that baby.”
-
Tim lied down in his bed by 10pm next to an already sleeping Lucy. She mumbled and turned around in his arms. He then fell into a deep slumber for the day that will come tomorrow.
