Sometimes, Katsuki remembers the days when he hated having Izuku follow him around and he laughs. He remembers the days when he would do anything just to have Izuku look at him, and he laughs again. Because now Izuku lives in his apartment, and his eyes never stray too far from Katsuki. If Katsuki wants his attention, all he has to do is ask, and Izuku will drop everything for him. And Katsuki would do the same. It’s just the deal that comes with being partners in every way for the rest of their lives.
However, Katsuki would like to make clear that this was not part of the deal.
“But Kacchan,” Izuku whines. “It’s only because I love you!”
Now this, while flattering, is something Katsuki is unfortunately very tired of. They’re in the apartment, having a fight while standing behind the couch. They’d just gotten home from grocery shopping, during which Izuku somehow managed to cause trouble. Katsuki really should stop being surprised.
“It’s no excuse, Izuku,” Katsuki tells him. “You’re a pro hero again. You have a reputation to uphold. You cannot be doing this shit in public.”
Izuku crosses his arms. “Why not? I saved the world. Without me, everyone in Japan would’ve been killed! They can’t bring my ranking down.”
“They definitely can,” Katsuki says. “You’re just lucky they love you.”
“See?” Izuku tries another angle, “civilians love me, so they’d do anything to protect me! And because I love you, I’d do anything to protect you!”
Katsuki throws his arms up, exasperated. “Izuku, I wasn’t in any kind of danger!”
“It’s times like these I really miss Blackwhip,” Izuku says under his breath, and then he starts his usual muttering. “I suppose I could just start having the suit with me at all times so I could use the Blackwhip feature if anything like this happens again, but that seems like a lot of effort, but maybe for Kacchan it would be worth it–”
“Stop acting like this is for me!” Katsuki yells. “In what world is you grabbing me by the arm and claiming me as yours like a dog pissing on a fire hydrant good for me ?”
Unfortunately, Izuku focuses on the wrong part of this sentence. He positively swoons as he says, “Kacchan, did you just say that you’re mine?”
Katsuki rolls his eyes. “That’s never been in question, idiot. We’re each other’s. The point is, we know that. So who the fuck cares if some extra doesn’t get the memo?”
“He was touching you,” Izuku hisses. “He had his hand on your arm. And I didn’t like the way he was looking at you. Like he wanted to fucking–eat you alive or something.”
“Izuku. That’s how you look at me.”
“Okay, well–” Izuku splutters. “I’m allowed to! Has he known you since the day he was born? Does he have a special nickname for you? Does he know exactly where you like to be kissed and exactly how to make you smile when you’re having a bad day?”
“Of course not,” Katsuki says. “Because he was just some fucking stranger. He recognized me as a hero and decided to flirt a little. I’m not saying I liked it, but I was about to tell him to fuck off before you swooped in and almost strangled him.”
“He had it coming,” Izuku says darkly. “He’s lucky I didn’t punch him in the face.”
“I recall having to hold you back.”
“ I recall some asshole trying to touch what’s mine!”
“Jesus, Izuku,” Katsuki sighs. “You’ve always been shit at sharing.”
“Kacchan’s mine,” Izuku pouts. “I just wish everybody could know that already.”
“I mean,” Katsuki says. “We could go public.”
“But–” Izuku shakes his head. “No way! Villains would use us to target each other, the hero commission would come at us with all this paperwork, not to mention the shit I’d get from my students alone–”
“Fine then,” Katsuki shrugs, because he couldn’t give less of a shit whether they went public or not. Yeah, Izuku got a lot of attention, but Katsuki couldn’t fault them. Izuku’s adorable, amazing, and has fantastic fucking thighs. Besides, it’s so obvious to anyone who pays attention for more than five seconds that Izuku belongs wholeheartedly to Katsuki, so he’s really not worried. And honestly? Izuku knows how Katsuki feels about him. Izuku knows Katsuki has never and will never look at anyone else.
To be completely honest, Katsuki’s pretty sure Izuku just enjoys being a possessive little shit. Izuku likes to stake his claim, and normally Katsuki is content to let him.
But in a bar. Or a club. Or in the privacy of their home.
Not on the sidewalk in broad fucking daylight.
“We won’t go public,” Katsuki continues. “And you’ll just have to keep on dealing with people flirting with me. Maybe someone will get to me when you’re not there, and they’ll actually get to the point of asking me out. Wouldn’t that be fun?”
What’s really fun is seeing Izuku’s expression turn darker and darker with rage. He’s practically seething by the time Katsuki finishes talking, and it’s hilarious.
“No, Kacchan,” Izuku says. “It would not be fun. I’m tired of people looking at you like they can have you! They don’t even have a chance! Nobody knows you like I do, Kacchan. Nobody knows how to love you like I do, Kacchan.”
“Deku,” Katsuki brings out the nickname, as he likes to do when Deku’s being particularly idiotic. “I know that. I know you love me. I love you too. Nothing is going to get between us, not after everything. You’re just being territorial because you have this horny obsession with me and you know it.”
“How can I not, Kacchan?” Izuku says, not even trying to deny it. “How am I supposed to not be obsessed with you when you’re the most amazing person in the whole wide world? And also incredibly, unfairly, crazy attractive. It’s just not fair, Kacchan.”
“Izuku, you’re insane,” Katsuki tells him. He opens his arms. Izuku dives into them, burying his head in Katsuki’s shoulder and making a home there. “Let’s just go public, okay? We love each other. There’s no reason to hide. We’re strong enough to not let villains use us against each other. The hero commission deals with hero couples all the fucking time. And your students definitely already know we’re dating. And you can still be as possessive as your heart desires, just in private. Please.”
Izuku nuzzles further into Katsuki’s chest, considering this. “And everyone would know you’re mine?”
“That’s the point of going public,” Katsuki reminds him. “And everyone would know that you’re mine, too. If I’m being completely honest, I could do without seeing those shitty tabloids gossiping about you and Uraraka being together. As if she’s not a raging fucking lesbian.”
“And I’ve only ever loved one person in my entire life,” Izuku adds. “There’s nobody else for me either, Kacchan.”
“Exactly,” Katsuki says. “So stop being insane and let’s just tell everyone.”
“Okay,” Izuku agrees. “We can tell everyone. But can I still be a little insane?”
Katsuki laughs. “You wouldn’t be my Deku if you weren’t.”
Izuku lifts his head out from Katsuki’s shoulder to give him a truly blinding, brilliant grin. Izuku winds his arms around Katsuki’s neck and kisses him, humming happily as Katsuki kisses back. When Katsuki pulls away, Izuku pouts a little and kisses his cheek.
“I still wish I’d punched that guy,” Izuku says.
“It would’ve been pretty hot,” Katsuki concedes. “But I’m still glad you didn’t.”
“I love you,” Izuku whispers. “I’m yours, Kacchan.”
“Yeah,” Katsuki laughs, content. So content. “Right back at you.”
They hold a press conference the next day. Izuku spends the entire time superglued to Katsuki, holding onto his arm like a lifeline as Katsuki speaks. Their PR agent was too afraid to let Izuku talk. Which, considering why they finally decided to make their relationship public, was totally fair.
Their social media erupts after that, and one of Izuku’s students starts a trend of posting pictures of Izuku glowering, getting grabby, or just generally going feral whenever Katsuki gets any kind of romantic attention on duty. The video of Izuku and the guy on the sidewalk gets posted too, of course. Izuku just watches it while cuddling up to Katsuki on the couch.
“I mean, who can blame me?” Izuku says, staring at Katsuki with the same adoration in his eyes that he wore when they were four. “I’m dating Kacchan.”
And there’s not much Katsuki can argue with there. He’s amazing, after all.
