    By the time she was twelve, she’d almost caught up to Vi’s record when she was the same age—five does and three bucks, twenty rabbits, seventeen squirrels, and two wild hogs. At seven, she was fresh off the boat, naive and dumb. At twelve, Powder knew everything there was to know about these woods, just like Vi and Vander.

    At least, she thought they knew everything.

    It turned out there was a lot about the woods in Zaun they didn’t know.
