Summary
Staring down at the empty street below him, Mingi imagined what it would feel like to finally let go. Perhaps in his fantasy he wished for somebody to run up the stairs and pull him away from the ledge. Somebody would hold him tight- so tight it hurt to breathe and beg him to reconsider. Maybe they'd scold him or slap him. Maybe he'd cry. Maybe he would live to see the sunrise again.
But this was reality. No one was coming to stop him. Rather, if anyone did come to the abandoned rooftop he had nonchalantly picked, they would only laugh at his attempt. He had locked eyes with the security guard at the lobby, the man having clearly seen his beaten and ragged state. He could have stopped him. The old lady in the elevator could have stopped him when she saw him pressing the top floor. Even the cleaner on the stairs could have stopped him.
They didn't.
And so Mingi didn't stop either. One step after another, he stepped over the ledge. He stared down. Turned around and faced the sky for one last time.
He'd miss the stars.
He closed his eyes and let go.
.
Song Mingi dies. And then he lives again. This time, he finds that maybe life can be better when you have somebody to love by your side.
