Work Text:

Shun knew that something like this could happen, he was aware of all the risks that came with marrying a delinquent yet it never truly sank in the kind of life that his husband was living. Or at least he never thought that this type of thing would happen to him, after all his husband was supposed to be the best, he was the best. But somehow here he was, alone, for the first time in what seemed like forever. In a home too big with too many memories after so many years. Unpacking into this house seemed like an eternity, but packing it all up again seems like forever longer. Maybe that was because he was too busy wondering how he got into this situation in the first place instead of packing.

He met Aren in high school when he transferred right into his class claiming to be perfectly ordinary, and for the first couple weeks he might have believed it. That was until he was pushed into front row seats of some random thugs beat down handed to them by Aren Kuboyasu. It all seemed so perfectly staged in order for them to meet, and why mess with the fate of that?

Kaidou almost caught himself laughing at the memories throwing his head back in time to prevent the over flow of tears in his eyes. It’s bittersweet, it hurts, and he misses his husband. His gaze caught the clock and he finally stood up, slowly walking to the door with slow steps and clumsy hands. He picked up a small bag by the door and headed into the garage. The drive was uneventful, might even have been peaceful a couple weeks ago. But now it’s too silent, a constant reminder in his ear of what’s missing, maybe he shouldn’t have turned down Chiyo when she offered to stay. It’s too late now, everyone’s moved on.

He found a parking spot and sat in the car just trying to concentrate anything to stop the shaking of his hands that haven’t gone away in weeks. For awhile the identical white hallways and nauseating sterile clean smell was his home, it was all he knew and all he saw. He refused to leave he just had to make sure that he was always available and in the back of his head make sure he was the first one in line to see his husband. To yell and scowled him to get angry to make sure he never did this again to never worry him like this, to be careful to not be so careless to just come home. He had to make sure that no body else got to him first, but that never happened. His anger has died down now he’s allowed himself to go home thinking that maybe he was just avoiding Shun somehow sensing what he was thinking. When he was allowed to visit he promised he wouldn’t get upset as long as he just woke up. He finally opened the door to arens room. He looked exactly the same as he did every other time he visited

It had been 10 years, a whole decade since he’s had to live without aren in his life. It might have been some stressful years, and they definitely weren’t perfect but he wouldn’t trade them for anything. In fact he would have traded everything for just a couple more years. Everyday felt like a bigger void in his heart, he would stay awake at night burning alive in the hotter nights without Kuboyasu. Shun has always been warm, even in the summer which was more than perfect for Aren who never liked to be any less than 80 degrees and at least ran 20 degrees colder than the average person. Of course, of course even their body temperatures were so in tune with each other. Almost an adaptation from prolonged exposure only making it increasingly more difficult to live without one another.
