Sonic suddenly woke up, his heart racing. He looked around, seeing Tom.
It was just a nightmare….
But it felt so real…
His fear increased again, his breathing becoming heavier and faster.
“Sonic?”
Tom placed his hand on Sonic’s shoulder and shook him softly, “You okay?”
Sonic felt the lump forming in his throat, and tears forming in his eyes. He couldn't resist it, he broke down.
“Hey, hey… it’s okay…” Tom immediately wrapped his arms around him. “I'm right here, shhh…” He pressed Sonic’s head against his chest, while one hand caressed his back, brushing his fingers through his back spines.
“Can you tell me what’s wrong, baby?” Tom asked.
Sonic wanted to respond, but couldn't. He clung onto him, crying harder.
Tom held him closer and began to slowly rock him, softly kissing his forehead. Sonic felt himself calming down, his eyes suddenly heavier.
“You wanna try and go back to bed now?”
Sonic nodded.
Tom laid him back down on the bed. Once he was lying down he made sure he was comfortable, tucking him in.
“you’ll always be safe with me.” He kept whispering and rubbing his hand along his quills.
Sonic smiled, “Thanks, dad..” he whispered.
“You’re welcome.”
