Dorcas walked out of Strange Brew, a music venue in Bristol, looking for her fellow band member, Marlene. It was dark out already, heavy grey clouds filling the sky. As soon as Cas stepped outside the bar into the crisp autumn air, she spotted Marlene leaning against the wall and smoking. "Hey Cassie! Want one?” Marlene exclaimed, holding out a cigarette towards Dorcas. "It's always good for the nerves, you know," She grinned. In about 45 minutes, they would be playing on stage, and Marlene was faithfully following her routine of smoking before every show. Dorcas rolled her eyes and took the cigarette.
“Don’t call me Cassie, it makes me sound like a 5-year-old.” Marlene laughed and leaned forward, trying to touch her own lit cigarette to Dorcas’s unlit one. Dorcas stumbled back. “What are you doing-?” She gasped, accidentally hitting her back against the wall and wincing at the scratching of the bricks on her bare shoulders. Marlene flushed and laughed a little. “Sorry babe, just trying to light it for you.” ‘Babe?’ Dorcas thought to herself, feeling heat rush to her cheeks. “You ok? I really didn’t mean to startle you. That looked like it hurt.” Marlene pulled Cas off the wall by her shoulders and slid behind her, running her fingers over the thin pale scratches on Dorcas’s back. “Marlene, I’m fine.” Marlene leaned away and exhaled a cloud of smoke out of the corner of her mouth, continuing to look at Dorcas. “Sorry. Again.”
“It’s alright Marls. You just startled me.” Dorcas smiled softly and let Marlene light her cigarette with the cheap pink plastic zippo that she always had on her. The thing was ancient, covered in heart doodles done by both Sirius and Marlene herself. The heavy smoke filling her lungs was a relief and brought on a sense of calm. “Oh fuck Cassie.” Marlene muttered. Dorcas’s eyes flashed up to her in an instant. “What’s wrong?” She asked, concerned. Marlene grinned sardonically and held out a hand. Dorcas saw a large raindrop land on Marlene’s palm and splash up before she looked up and felt the cold British rain landing on her own face. “Come on then!” Marlene called. “What are you waiting for?” She was jogging on the spot, clearly hoping that Dorcas would start running so that she could take off as well. Dorcas grabbed her hand and held her in place. The rain was getting heavier very rapidly, but Dorcas held firm. “Wait.” She said quietly. Marlene looked at her confused. “Wha-” Dorcas kissed her.
Marlene's eyes widened in surprise as Dorcas pulled her close. She hadn't expected this in the slightest. She let out a soft noise of surprise, before melting into the kiss. In the pouring rain, kissing Cas felt like the most natural thing in the world. She brought her hands up to her shoulders and pulled Dorcas flush against her body, the rain getting heavier above them. “We’re soaked!” Marlene laughed loudly. “And we still have to go on stage!” Dorcas laughed as well, too deliriously happy to complain about the weather. “Mary always has spare clothes, we’ll be fine!”
After the show, Dorcas went over to Marlene’s apartment. She’s pretty sure that she and Marlene were sculpted with each other’s arms in mind.
“I was made for you.” Dorcas whispered into Marlene’s hair, the blonde girl melting farther into her arms. Marlene laughed quietly and kissed her softly. “I love you too Cas.”
