You were buzzing with excitement, one of your hands was in Bucky's metal hand whilst your free arm was wrapped around that same metal arm, near bouncing as the two of you walked down the street.
"You gotta calm it, baby" Bucky's voice is laced with amusement as he speaks to you, he lowers his head slightly, his breath tickling your ear as he spoke.
"I can't" You whisper, the excitement evident in your step.
"You'd think you'd never owned a kitten before, doll" He says quietly, he raises his flesh hand to adjust his baseball cap slightly as he speaks to you.
"I haven't!" You squeal, a small bounce in your step as you near your destination. A small shop on the corner of the street you had been walking on. Just before you opened the door, you did a little excited tippy toe dance, still holding onto Bucky's arm.
The shop itself was small and cute, painted baby blue, which added to the adorableness. Even through the window you could see a variety of animals; puppies, kittens, a few smaller animals in different enclosures.
"Ready, doll?" He asks, a small smile on his lips as he looks down at you. It was moments like this when Bucky decided he was really in love with you, he knew all the time that he loved you, but the moments like this, where you were beyond happy, acting silly and adorable, that's when he really, really loved you.
"I'm ready" You whisper, stepping forward, you enter the shop and it wasn't too busy, which made you happy, you knew Bucky didn't like crowded places. With wide eyes you look over the various animals, but the kittens were the reason you came.
You slowly walked over to them, a small part of you thinking you may combust when you actually saw the little sweethearts.
Finally you reached the little enclosure, it was on the floor, surrounded by a small fencing which looked like the kittens couldn't climb out. There was a handful of them in there, meowing and playing, it was enough to bring tears to your eyes.
One, two, three, four, five kittens all together! All different colours, there was one that was bright ginger and fluffy, one that was white and fluffy, one short haired tortoiseshell, one short haired tabby and finally the smallest of the group, a fully black cat playing with a toy mouse.
"Oh Bucks! Look at them!" You squealed in a whisper, your hands came to your cheeks, holding onto your own face as you looked at the kittens.
"What one do you want, doll? How about the orange one?" Bucky asks, he steps right behind you, both his hands moving to stroke both your arms. You felt little goosebumps rise at his touch. You shake your head at his suggestion, you though which little guy you wanted.
"That one" You say quietly pointing to the little black kitten.
"Alright, you wait here, I'll get a staff member" Bucky whispers in your ear, though you hardly notice your eyes trained on the little black kitten. They were so small, completely black with beautiful golden eyes, and if you squint your eyes you could see the tiniest faint of a lighter black pattern along its back going down to it's tail.
Moments later Bucky was back with a member of staff, she smiled at you, and brought you to her desk so you could start filling out all the paperwork for the kitten. It took around ten minutes, and finally after buying a cat carrier from them - it was the last thing you needed, everything had been brought and was back at yours and Bucky's flat - the staff member allowed you to scoop up the little kitten, and as your hands touched it, the kitten started purring, your heart swelled and you know it was a match made in heaven.
Once the kitten was in the carrier Bucky carried it, and you both left the store, your little kitten meows a little as you walked, and each time you leant down and spoke to it. Giving it kind words, despite it obviously not knowing English, but you felt it still calmed the kitten down.
"Whatcha' gonna name him?" Bucky asked, the staff member had let you know that the little guy was a boy kitten, so you had been thinking of boy names ever since.
"I have a few names in mind, I wanna get him home first" You say excitedly.
After the short walk to your flat, you rush inside and place the cat carrier on the floor in the middle of your living room. Both you and Bucky sit back on the couch, allowing time for the kitten to come out by itself. You had placed two little bowls near the doorway connecting to the kitchen full of water and kitten food, and toys were everywhere. Bucky had yet to build the cat tree, but you didn't think the kitten would mind yet.
Eventually the little kitten poked his head out of the cat carrier, his golden eyes looked up at you and then he backed away a little, hiding in the shadows of the cat carrier.
"Shadow, come out kitten" You whisper, your eyes trained on the spot he had appeared from.
"Shadow?" Bucky questions, you look from the cat carrier to him and nod, a wide grin on your lips.
"Yeah, Shadow, cause he's fully black, and look, he's hiding in the shadows!" You answer gleefully.
"I like it, doll. Shadow Barnes" Bucky responds, his metal hand presses gently to your lower back as he leans forward to press a short kiss to you temple.
After waiting for a little longer, Shadow finally came out of his cat carrier, very cautiously. By this point you had slid onto the floor, crossing your legs and leaning against Bucky's legs.
"Hi sweet baby" You whispered holding your hand out. Shadow looked around the room, taking in his new surroundings and then he looked at you, he looked up at you with his wide little eyes and took a step closer to you.
Once he was close enough you reached one finger out and stroked his little furry nose, he flinched back slightly, but then came back for more. And within minutes Shadow was lying on his back showing his belly to you whilst you stroked him.
"Oh Bucks, I love him, look at him!" You say quietly, tears building in your eyes.
"I know baby, I'm looking" Bucky responds fondly.
"I love him, oh, I love you. Look at us, a family of three now!" You giggled softly as you booped Shadow's little nose.
"Yeah, we are, doll. And I love you too" Bucky says with a little chuckle.
And that's how you spend your evening, sat on the floor with a little kitten whilst Bucky watched fondly at the new addition to your little family.
