Love in the Little Things

Summary:

Taehyun has always loved Beomgyu in quiet, unspoken ways—through soft glances, fleeting touches, and the countless little acts of care. But love like this is patient, and Taehyun doesn’t need grand declarations or dramatic gestures. Taehyun loves Beomgyu with a quiet intensity that borders on reverence. Even as they share the small intimacies of life—his love feels infinite, almost too vast to hold. Every moment with Beomgyu is a gift, every detail a treasure, but Taehyun can’t shake the yearning for something impossible: to love him in every lifetime, every universe, in ways that defy the limits of time. This is a story of love that lingers in the details, where yearning feels like home, and loving is as natural as breathing.

Work Text:

Taehyun was the kind of man who carried his love in silence, as though speaking it aloud might shatter everything he’d built around it. He moved through life with a quiet dignity, his polished composure betraying none of the storms that raged beneath. But beneath that calm veneer lay a love so profound it carved its way into every corner of his being, leaving him tethered to the one person who he thought would never truly be his.

Beomgyu.

Taehyun loved Beomgyu with a quiet intensity that sometimes scared him. Even now, as they sat together on the worn leather couch in their apartment, Beomgyu’s head resting lightly on his shoulder, Taehyun couldn’t help but marvel at the sheer impossibility of it all. Beomgyu was here—his Beomgyu—and yet, Taehyun still felt like he was on the edge of something too vast to comprehend, like loving him was staring out over an endless ocean and never quite finding the shore.

It was the way Beomgyu’s laughter broke through the quiet like sunlight scattering across water, the way he smiled without restraint, eyes sparkling. Taehyun could never look too long; it made his chest ache in a way he didn’t know how to explain. How could one person contain so much light? How could someone like Beomgyu choose him, of all people, to share it with?

Even when they were together like this, their fingers loosely intertwined, Taehyun found himself yearning. Not for more—not exactly. But for something impossible, something infinite. He wanted to hold every version of Beomgyu there had ever been, to know him in every lifetime, every universe. He wanted to carry Beomgyu’s happiness and his sorrows, to be the reason he smiled and the place he came to rest when the world grew too heavy.

And yet, there was a part of Taehyun that felt unworthy, as though this love—so bright, so overwhelming—was something he could only borrow, never own. Every time Beomgyu looked at him, eyes soft and full of trust, Taehyun’s breath caught in his throat. Did Beomgyu even realize the power he held? Did he know that Taehyun would burn the world down for him, that he would willingly unravel himself if it meant Beomgyu could shine just a little brighter?

Even though they’re together, he yearns. His yearning turns the everyday into poetry, weaving his longing, his care, into every breath, every thought—a love so powerful it almost feels like it could move the universe. Each moment is filled with quiet yearning, not because Taehyun doesn’t have Beomgyu, but because having him only makes him want to hold on tighter. The love he feels is so immense that even the time they spend together feels fleeting, like he could never get enough of the person who means everything to him.

So it’s all the things and other things that makes him feel so much. For the time when Taehyun watches Beomgyu from across the room as he plays guitar, his fingers gliding over the strings with practiced ease. The sunlight filters through the curtains, casting a soft glow on his face. Taehyun’s chest tightens with an overwhelming ache—how is it possible for someone to be this beautiful? He drinks in every detail, hoping to imprint the moment onto his soul.

When they pass each other in the hallway of their shared apartment, Beomgyu brushes his fingers against Taehyun’s wrist in a fleeting touch. It’s casual, barely noticeable, but Taehyun feels it resonate like a spark running up his arm. Later, as Beomgyu hums in the kitchen, Taehyun stands by the doorway, still reliving the sensation.

Lying in bed late at night, Beomgyu’s back pressed to his chest, Taehyun whispers Beomgyu’s name into the dark. He doesn’t expect a response; he just loves how it sounds, soft and tender on his tongue. It feels like a prayer, a quiet acknowledgment of how much Beomgyu means to him.

Or when Beomgyu is at a gathering with their friends, laughing and telling some animated story, and Taehyun stays in the background. He doesn’t interrupt or join in—he just stands there, watching Beomgyu light up the room. It’s enough to see him shine, enough to know that he’s happy, so he pays attention to every detail, pays attention to his Beomgyu.

Even when Beomgyu isn’t around, Taehyun hears his voice in his mind. He remembers the way Beomgyu giggles uncontrollably at stupid memes, the way his voice lowers when he’s teasing him. In the quiet, Taehyun replays those sounds over and over, as if they’re a melody that keeps him grounded.

After Beomgyu leaves for work, Taehyun finds the half-drunk cup of coffee he left on the counter. He picks it up and traces the rim with his fingers, imagining the shape of Beomgyu’s lips on it. It’s ridiculous, he knows, but he can’t help himself—it’s like a tangible piece of Beomgyu that he can hold onto until he comes back.

Taehyun also watches Beomgyu fall asleep beside him, his face relaxed and peaceful. He imagines a future where they’ve grown old together, sitting on the porch of some quiet seaside house. The thought makes his chest ache, not with sadness but with the overwhelming hope that they’ll get there—that they’ll have a lifetime to share.

On nights when Beomgyu falls asleep first, Taehyun stays awake, staring at the ceiling. His heart feels heavy with the weight of how much he loves him. It’s almost too much—this quiet, consuming love that seems to stretch far beyond words. He glances at Beomgyu’s sleeping form and presses a kiss to his temple, hoping it somehow conveys the depth of his feelings.

When Beomgyu is working on a project, completely focused, Taehyun doesn’t interrupt. Instead, he sits nearby, silently watching the way Beomgyu’s eyebrows furrow in concentration. He doesn’t need attention—just being in Beomgyu’s space is enough to make him feel like the luckiest person alive.

Late evenings, when Beomgyu is sprawled across the couch, absentmindedly humming a tune while scrolling through his phone. Taehyun leans on the doorframe, completely entranced. The way Beomgyu exists so effortlessly, so beautifully, feels like something Taehyun can never fully comprehend. He wants to tell him but knows his words would never capture how much he adores even these mundane moments.

Even in their ordinary routines, when Beomgyu hands Taehyun a plate of food he cooked, and Taehyun hesitates for a moment before taking it. His fingers brush against Beomgyu’s, and it feels like a lightning bolt through his chest. He eats slowly, savoring the thought that Beomgyu made this for him, each bite feeling like an unspoken “I love you.”

During a date at their favorite café, Beomgyu is talks about something excitedly, his hands gesturing wildly. Taehyun barely hears the words because all he can focus on is how alive Beomgyu looks, how his eyes spark with passion. Taehyun’s heart aches with the realization that he could spend forever watching Beomgyu and still want more.

On quiet mornings, Beomgyu stays curled up under the blankets, his face soft and peaceful in the golden morning light. Taehyun sits beside him, unable to bring himself to wake him just yet. He wishes he could freeze the moment, keep Beomgyu here forever, untouched by the outside world.

When Beomgyu is laughing with their friends, his head thrown back in pure joy, Taehyun stays a step back. He knows he could join the conversation, but he doesn’t want to intrude on the moment. Instead, he silently thanks the universe for creating someone who radiates so much light, someone who makes the world feel a little brighter just by being in it.

Sometimes, when they’re lying on the couch watching a movie, Taehyun finds himself staring at Beomgyu’s hand. He wants to hold it, but the intensity of his love makes him hesitate. Instead, he lets his pinky brush against Beomgyu’s, the smallest touch saying everything he can’t put into words.

When Beomgyu leaves for work in the mornings, he always kisses Taehyun on the cheek before heading out. The moment lingers long after the door closes. Taehyun stands in the quiet apartment, touching the spot where Beomgyu’s lips pressed against his skin, already counting the hours until he comes back.

Even during their rare disagreements, Taehyun feels the ache of love in his chest. Watching Beomgyu pace the room, his arms crossed in frustration, Taehyun can’t focus on the argument. All he can think is how much he hates the distance between them, how he’d do anything to close it and hold Beomgyu until everything feels right again.

Beomgyu leaves his hoodie on the chair one day, and Taehyun doesn’t return it immediately. Instead, he slips it on when he’s alone, inhaling the faint scent of Beomgyu that still clings to the fabric. It’s ridiculous, he knows, but it feels like Beomgyu is wrapping him in his arms, even when he’s not there.

One night, Taehyun wakes up from a nightmare where Beomgyu wasn’t in his life anymore. He turns to find Beomgyu still beside him, his chest rising and falling softly in sleep. Taehyun’s throat tightens as he pulls Beomgyu closer, burying his face in his hair. He doesn’t fall back asleep that night, too afraid to let go of the warmth in his arms.

On his way to work, Taehyun spots a small sunflower growing in a crack on the sidewalk. It reminds him of Beomgyu—bright, unyielding, and beautiful in unexpected places. He snaps a photo and sends it to him with no explanation, hoping Beomgyu will understand the quiet love behind the gesture.

Beomgyu has a freckle just under his jawline, hidden unless you’re close enough to notice. Taehyun finds himself staring at it during quiet moments, wondering if anyone else has ever loved Beomgyu so much that even the smallest details feel monumental.

Even when they’re together, Beomgyu laughing against his shoulder or wrapping his arms around him, Taehyun feels a bittersweet ache. His love is so vast it hurts, as though no amount of time with Beomgyu will ever be enough to satisfy the endless yearning in his heart.

They’re sitting by the beach, Beomgyu with his sketchbook, furiously sketching something he refuses to show yet. Taehyun sits beside him, quietly admiring the way Beomgyu’s brows furrow in concentration, how his lips twitch with small smiles when he’s satisfied with a line. Taehyun could ask what he’s drawing, but he doesn’t want to break the spell. Instead, he sits in silence, soaking in the way Beomgyu exists so naturally, so beautifully.

They’re playing a board game in the living room, and Beomgyu is laughing uncontrollably at a mistake Taehyun made. His cheeks are flushed, and tears of laughter gather in his eyes. Taehyun laughs too, but his heart aches. It’s not just the sound of Beomgyu’s joy; it’s the knowledge that he’s the one making Beomgyu laugh like this, and he wants to hold onto the moment forever.

Beomgyu leans against him during a movie night, his head resting on Taehyun’s shoulder. It’s such a simple gesture, yet Taehyun feels the weight of it like a tether pulling him closer. He doesn’t move, barely breathing, afraid that any shift might make Beomgyu pull away.

When they lie on the floor together after a long day, Beomgyu’s head on Taehyun’s chest as they listen to music. Beomgyu hums along to the tune, his voice soft and melodic. Taehyun doesn’t speak—he’s too busy marveling at the warmth radiating between them, the sheer privilege of being this close to someone he loves so much it hurts.

Beomgyu dragging Taehyun through a crowded carnival, laughing and pointing at the colorful stalls. They stop by a cotton candy stand, and Beomgyu insists on feeding Taehyun a piece. Taehyun smiles, but there’s an ache in his chest—how is it possible for someone to make something as simple as cotton candy feel like a love story?

When they’re cooking dinner together, and Beomgyu is hopelessly bad at chopping vegetables. Taehyun tries to teach him, but Beomgyu keeps getting distracted, tossing bits of carrot at Taehyun instead. Taehyun sighs, pretending to be annoyed, but in truth, he’s captivated by Beomgyu’s clumsiness. Even his flaws feel perfect, and Taehyun feels like his chest might burst with affection.

Even mundane moments held magic. Grocery shopping, and Beomgyu is debating which cereal to buy, his face scrunched up in mock seriousness. Taehyun watches him, feeling like the world has slowed down. It’s such an ordinary moment, but in Taehyun’s eyes, it’s magic because Beomgyu is in it.

And then there were nights where Beomgyu’s vulnerability surfaced—during thunderstorms, when he clung to Taehyun, his fear of loud noises evident in the way he burrows into his chest. Taehyun wraps his arms around him, murmuring reassurances, but inside, his heart aches. Beomgyu’s vulnerability makes Taehyun want to protect him forever, to shield him from anything that could hurt him.

Yet, it was the smallest things that left Taehyun undone.

Beomgyu absentmindedly fixes Taehyun’s hair during breakfast, his fingers brushing against his temple. It’s such a small thing, something Beomgyu probably doesn’t even think about, but Taehyun feels it like a ripple through his chest. He stares at Beomgyu, wondering if he knows just how much Taehyun loves him.

On late walks home, when Beomgyu suddenly stops to point out the stars. “Look, that one’s so bright!” he says, his voice filled with wonder. Taehyun looks at the stars but quickly shifts his gaze back to Beomgyu. “Not as bright as you,” he murmurs under his breath, knowing Beomgyu won’t hear him.

Beomgyu sings softly as he washes dishes, his voice filling the quiet kitchen. Taehyun leans against the counter, pretending to check his phone, but really, he’s focusing on the way Beomgyu’s voice rises and falls. It’s not just the melody that captivates him—it’s the way every sound feels like it belongs to him, a gift he doesn’t deserve.

They’re playing video games, and Beomgyu beats Taehyun for the fifth time in a row. Beomgyu grins triumphantly, his eyes sparkling with mischief, and Taehyun feels a pang in his chest. How does Beomgyu still manage to surprise him, even after all this time? How does he fall in love with him all over again every day?

A day spent together, Beomgyu falls asleep on Taehyun’s lap. Taehyun runs his fingers through his hair, trying to memorize the way Beomgyu feels against him. Even as sleep pulls at him, Taehyun fights it, unwilling to let go of the moment, as though staying awake could make it last forever.

They’re sitting at a café, sharing a piece of cake, and Beomgyu smears frosting on Taehyun’s nose with a laugh. Taehyun doesn’t retaliate—he just stares at Beomgyu, overwhelmed by the thought that this is his life now. That he gets to share these moments with someone so vibrant, so full of life.

Beomgyu leans across the table during dinner, teasing him about something, and Taehyun just stares. In that moment, he sees everything—laughter, comfort, love, a future that feels too good to be true. He smiles, hoping Beomgyu doesn’t notice the way his eyes shine with unshed tears.

Each moment spent with Beomgyu shows that even in love, Taehyun’s yearning remains—an uncontainable, overwhelming feeling that makes every shared second with Beomgyu feel precious and profound. Taehyun’s love for Beomgyu wasn’t about lack—it was about abundance. About how even in their happiest moments, he felt a quiet ache, the knowledge that no amount of time would ever feel like enough. His yearning wasn’t for more; it was for everything—for Beomgyu in every lifetime, every universe, to stretch beyond words and moents, infinite and uncontainable.

Sometimes, Taehyun wonders if he deserves someone like Beomgyu. He hopes Beomgyu knows how much he’s loved, even if Taehyun struggles to say it out loud sometimes. He doesn’t need anything in return; just seeing Beomgyu happy is enough.

His thoughts are interrupted when Beomgyu stirred against his shoulder, murmuring something half-asleep, and Taehyun pressed a soft kiss to his hair, the scent of him—a mix of lavender shampoo and something uniquely Beomgyu—filling his lungs.

“I love you,” he whispered, so quietly it was almost lost to the hum of the room.

And he did—so deeply that even now, with Beomgyu in his arms, he ached with the sheer vastness of it. He’s loved beomgyu with every breath, every glance, every heartbeat. He didn’t need anything else more that this: Beomgyu’s laughter, his warmth, his existence.

Taehyun always made sure to keep Beomgyu’s favorite snacks stocked in the pantry, a quiet ritual he never mentioned. It was something so simple—grabbing the extra pack of chips Beomgyu loved, the chocolate bars he pretended he didn’t crave—but it was worth it every time Beomgyu opened the cupboard and grinned like he’d found treasure. Taehyun would glance over from the couch, heart swelling at the sight of him so easily happy.

Sometimes, he’d slip little notes into Beomgyu’s pockets or guitar case, lines like “You’ve got this” or “I love you more than you’ll ever know” scribbled in his neat handwriting. He never waited to see Beomgyu’s reaction, but later, when his phone buzzed with a picture of the note surrounded by heart emojis, it was enough to make him smile to himself, warmth blooming in his chest.

Beomgyu often fell asleep on the couch, sprawled in the most uncomfortable-looking positions with his head tilted at odd angles. Taehyun would shake his head fondly, walking over to drape a blanket over him, carefully tucking it around his shoulders. He’d pause for a moment, his eyes lingering on Beomgyu’s peaceful face, before leaning down to press a feather-light kiss to his forehead.

On colder days, Taehyun always remembered to bring an extra pair of gloves, knowing Beomgyu would inevitably forget his own. When Beomgyu turned up with his hands shoved deep into his pockets, Taehyun would pull out the gloves without a word, slipping them onto Beomgyu’s hands himself. Beomgyu would smile sheepishly, mumbling something about being spoiled, but Taehyun didn’t mind.

He had a habit of quietly taking care of Beomgyu’s things when he was busy. Sheet music left scattered across the desk would be stacked neatly, the pencils sharpened and placed within reach. Beomgyu always noticed later, wrapping his arms around Taehyun from behind and murmuring a soft, “Thank you.”

Mornings were another thing Taehyun cherished, even when Beomgyu wasn’t fully awake. On the rare occasions Beomgyu was too tired to get up, Taehyun would handle everything—the coffee, the breakfast, the texts that could wait—letting Beomgyu sleep in. When it was finally time to wake him, he’d do it gently, brushing a hand through Beomgyu’s hair and whispering, “Wake up, my love.”

When they went out together, Taehyun always instinctively carried Beomgyu’s bag or anything he was holding. It wasn’t something they talked about, but it made Beomgyu smile in that shy, soft way that melted Taehyun’s heart every single time.

Beomgyu’s small habits never escaped him, either.

Taehyun would sit quietly, watching him push his hair out of his eyes only for it to fall back a moment later. Eventually, he’d reach over, tucking the stray strands behind Beomgyu’s ear with a touch so gentle it made Beomgyu pause, his cheeks turning pink.

And then there were the nights, the quiet ones when Beomgyu felt insecure about the scars on his hands from endless hours of strumming his guitar. Taehyun would take his hands, turning them over in his own, and press soft kisses to each callus, murmuring, “These are proof of how amazing you are and how much hardworking you've put in.” Beomgyu would try to laugh it off, but Taehyun could see the way his shoulders relaxed, his insecurities momentarily forgotten.

Taehyun had a habit of memorizing the smallest things about Beomgyu. He knew exactly how Beomgyu liked his eggs—scrambled, but not too soft, with just a pinch of pepper—and he’d always make them that way without needing to ask. It was second nature to him, as natural as breathing, and the way Beomgyu would give him that sleepy, contented smile in return made it worth the extra effort every single time.

When they walked home from late-night outings, Beomgyu always seemed to forget to check the weather. Without fail, Taehyun would pull out an umbrella he’d stashed earlier, holding it over Beomgyu while his own shoulder got wet. Beomgyu protested at first, grabbing for the handle, but Taehyun would just shake his head with a teasing smirk, saying, “You’ll catch a cold if I let you.”

Beomgyu was terrible at remembering to eat when he was busy. Whenever Taehyun noticed him getting lost in his work—whether it was sketching designs or practicing his guitar—he’d quietly make a sandwich or bring him a cup of tea, setting it down beside him with a soft “Hyung, eat.” Beomgyu would blink up at him, as if surprised, before leaning up to kiss his cheek in gratitude.

Even in the mundane, Taehyun found ways to take care of him. He would untangle the cords of Beomgyu’s headphones when they inevitably got knotted, patiently looping them back into place. It was such a small thing, but Beomgyu would always notice, giving him a shy, grateful look that made Taehyun’s heart ache in the best way.

On nights when Beomgyu had trouble sleeping, Taehyun stayed awake with him, quietly rubbing circles into his back or holding his hand under the covers. Sometimes, he’d hum a soft melody, the low sound filling the silence until Beomgyu’s breathing evened out. He never said much in those moments; he didn’t need to. Just being there was enough.

When Beomgyu’s favorite hoodie got a tear in the sleeve, Taehyun took it upon himself to fix it. He wasn’t great at sewing, but he sat down with a needle and thread, painstakingly stitching the fabric until it was good as new. He didn’t even tell Beomgyu he’d done it—just left the hoodie folded neatly on his chair. When Beomgyu saw it, he immediately ran to Taehyun, tackling him in a hug that nearly knocked them both over.

Taehyun would also take the time to clean Beomgyu’s guitar when he wasn’t looking, wiping the strings and polishing the wood until it gleamed. Beomgyu always knew it was him, but he’d never say anything directly, choosing instead to show his appreciation with a soft kiss to Taehyun’s temple.

On days when Beomgyu’s confidence wavered, when he doubted his own talent or worried he wasn’t good enough, Taehyun would gently pull him into his arms, pressing his lips to the top of his head. “You’re incredible,” he’d murmur, his voice steady and warm. “Don’t ever doubt that.”

And when Beomgyu got excited about something—whether it was a new song he’d written or a funny meme he’d found—Taehyun always gave him his full attention. He’d listen intently, his eyes never leaving Beomgyu’s, nodding along or laughing in all the right places. It wasn’t hard to see how much he cared, how deeply invested he was in everything Beomgyu had to say.

Even in the smallest moments, like slipping his arm around Beomgyu’s waist in a crowded room or brushing invisible crumbs from his lips after a meal, Taehyun’s love was evident. It was in the way he touched Beomgyu, so gently, like he was something precious; in the way he looked at him, like he was the only thing that mattered. It was in everything Taehyun did, whether Beomgyu noticed or not.

The love Taehyun had for Beomgyu wasn’t loud or dramatic. It was in the quiet moments, the small gestures, the unspoken understanding that filled the silences between them. To Taehyun, that was enough. Loving Beomgyu in this way—patient, steady, with no need for fanfare—felt as natural as breathing.

It wasn’t about making grand statements or doing something extravagant. It was in the little things: the gentle care, the unnoticed details, the way Taehyun saw Beomgyu—not just for who he was, but for who he always would be to him. Each moment, each simple act, was Taehyun’s way of loving him, and in that quiet love, everything was already said.

But even as he held him close, he couldn’t help but feel it, every second of every other day: this quiet consuming longing. To love Beomgyu better. To love him more. To love him enough. Always enough.

Notes:

I love beomgyu so much that I had to write it in Taehyun's pov.
I also love how Taehyun actually pays attention to every small detail and that's my favorite thing.
