This is so good! So damn good! Lae'zel's struggle is so real. And I love that the author delved into both the mental and physical aspects of it. Like, normally, people won't feel about the struggles of a mindflayer trying to pick up a sword. Now I wonder if Lae'zel would have floating sword attacks like those characters in manhwas do lol.
I also love the addition of Astarion and Wyll here. I think the contrast between Astarion's pettiness and Wyll's compassion really made them feel human despite their newfound tentacles. And it is obvious their presence is one of the biggest reasons Lae'zel found a will (Wyll...jk) to try living again.
Shadowheart's presence is also very subtle in terms of scenes but very impactful in Lae'zel's emotional arc. As a former Sharran and now a mindflayer, it is understandable she won't know how to comfort someone, more so someone who turned into a suicidal mindflayer. It is kind of a different Shadowzel post-caon flavor, but the core of their relationship is still the fact that both of them chose to stay for each other regardless of the circumstances they have and their sense of selves changing over again. And I think that is so beautiful.
(And also, fuck the Emperor)

how to live with victory
ushauzRight before freeing Orpheus, the Emperor let go of his protections, causing the whole party to turn into mindflayers. Lae'zel struggles to live after this. Bittersweet.
