Xie Lian drops his head to rest on Hua Cheng’s shoulder. “Then I’m being selfish. There are other people who missed you.”
There is exactly one other person who may have missed Hua Cheng, and he hasn’t called. “Gege flatters me. I am not so well liked.”
“But you are.” Xie Lian implores, face still hidden.

“Gege’s affection is enough for me,” Hua Cheng tries, and he speaks enough honey into the words that it almost covers the bitterness he’s carried in his throat since a first fated encounter with a shadow of a man in a seaside cave, all those centuries ago.
