Work Text:
Yuri was the maid's daughter. It wasn't unusual for her to come to the palace. Now that she was older, it definitely reduced to only a few days.
Those days were Riki's favorite. He liked her since they were kids but he never told her.
What he didn't know was she also liked him. She never asked him out though, after all, he was the prince and she was just a commoner.
They both watched each other from a distance and that's all they needed.
"If you really liked her, you'd ask her out by now." Yuta told him nonchalantly.
"It's not that easy, Yuta. You'd never know because you didn't fall in love" Riki rolled his eyes at him.
Maybe it was the fear of getting caught and punished or maybe it was their ego that was stopping them from loving each other.
Love between a peasant and a prince was already a taboo but for Riki and Yuri it was completely forbidden, everyone knew they were in love.
Their worlds shattered when they found out Riki was getting married to another.
He couldn't fight back because his father was the king after all.
He felt bad for his future wife, she'll never be loved by him.
Their wedding day was the worst. Yuri was called to help Riki dress up. They couldn't look at each other's eyes. Yuri had to see his wife walk down the aisle. She couldn't even do anything
Neither of them got a happy ending. Riki's wife knew she wasn't his love, but she couldn't do anything. Riki couldn't ever forget about Yuri. Yuri never had a boyfriend or husband all because of her first love, Riki.
Love is a battle, you don't know if you'll win or lose but you'll have to fight.
Riki and Yuri didn't so they didn't get their happy ending.
