The first thing you have to understand about American culture is that we are never taught to value the concept that we are all one big family in the world. Politicians do this on purpose to manipulate Americans to fight amongst themselves
They point at one group and tell another group- “Hate them, they are the ones keeping you miserable.” They do this so they never have to fear being held responsible for our problems. They also never have to fear us banding together in enough numbers to be a threat to their power.
The next thing you have to understand is that we have an unhealthy obsession with the word ‘independence’.
Originally it just referred to wanting to be free of Great Britain. Then over 200+ years it grew to mean that you should get a job by 15 or 16 and after 18, your parents don't need to support you any more. There are parents who kick kids out on their 18th birthday even if the kids were still studying for college exams.
Now if your own parents didn't have to care about you, why should your own government? Do everything by yourself, don't rely on others.
Lastly, economic freedom is more important than personal freedom. Now, you won't find that one written down anywhere. It is just something obvious. If an individual's freedom was important, hospitals wouldn't be able to change $40 USD for one dose of tylenol. Giving birth wouldn't cost $40,000. College wouldn't cost $30,000 a year.
So those are the basic motives for what is going on right now. US companies are threatened by competition from foreign countries so they bribed politicians to ban TikTok. This was proposed first by President Trump in his first term.
Yes, I know he has just claimed to have magically “saved” TikTok. Something is very suspicious with the government right now. The story behind all of this hasn't been found out completely.
But back to why we came to Xiaohongshu in the first place. The excuse for banning TikTok was national security, specifically Chinese propaganda corrupting the youth of America…or something like that.
We all know that is a flat out lie. So we literally found the most communist Chinese app that we had any hope of understanding. Then once a few people saw that China wasn't full of starving homeless people…we realized that the underprivileged population was probably ours.
Americans hate being lied to. We hate manipulation. You sharing Xiaohongshu with us has had a more of an impact than a 1000+ Luigi. Fewer people everyday fear China and communism…at least communism the way China does it. We still think North Korea needs serious help.
Ok, I did see a few questions about deportations. Trump wants to deport any foreigner he possibly can. This isn't because we are full or have too few jobs. This is entirely racism. He would even want to deport refugees from war torn countries back to those countries. Trump and Musk will say nice things to China to their face, but behind China's back they will say bad things.
Trump only ran for president in order to avoid jail time anyway. He was convicted of over 30 crimes. Did you know how many Americans were shocked to find out that a felon could run for president?
