Chapter 1: The Popular Girl

Chapter Text

As March strolled down the hallway, she could tell all eyes were on her. She didn't know when it started, but somewhere along the way, she'd become the most popular girl in the school.

"March, please be my girlfriend!" a wide-eyed, brunette boy begged her.

"No thanks. You're not my type," March replied simply, shaking her head in refusal.

The boy's head drooped as he headed back to his locker, which, creepily, had posters of her face all over it.

"Hey, Marchie," her annoying friends said suddenly, flanking her sides.

Caelus and Stelle were twins, and were in the same orphanage March stayed at.

The orphanage was welcoming, but pretty deserted, since they were the only ones there, and there were no workers except a teenage receptionist that was their age.

Blowing a strand of pink hair out of her face, March demanded tiredly, "What do you want?"

"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed," Stelle joked, while Caelus looked taken aback.

"I'm tired of all this attention I get," March sighed, another boy, this time a blond one, rushing up to her with a box of heart-shaped chocolates.

"March, will you be my girlf-"

"No," March sighed, nudging the boy away.

The boy, carrying a dejected expression on his face, walked off, his head hanging and his shoulders slumped.

"Is he... crying?" Caelus asked, peering at the boy's face.

"Sure looks like it," Stelle responded nonchalantly, shrugging. "We should call March the 'Heartbreaker' because she's killing boys' hearts left and right!"

"Hey!" March said, pouting. "That's unfair! I wouldn't keep rejecting them if I was actually interested in them! Besides, everyone's pairing up, and prom's in a couple months. If I don't find a date, I'll be the laughing stock of the entire school!"

"So glad I've got it figured out," Caelus said, flexing the fact that he'd recently asked out Firefly and gotten accepted.

"Don't make March feel worse," Stelle said with a sigh.

"Not like I'm doing it on purpose," Caelus shrugged. "I'm just stating that I have a girlfriend now."

"Hey CaeCae!" Firefly bound over to them, a spring in her steps.

"Hey babe!" Caelus said cheerfully, embracing Firefly.

"No time for mushiness! We're gonna be late!" Stelle said unexpectedly, dragging March's arm in the direction of Math class."
