Chapter 1: Zahra Bankston

Chapter Text

Zahra is the first to learn about the emails, because of course she is, so she had the unfortunate pleasure of reading through the leaked files. She had to ensure that it was a genuine leak and not some sick prank designed to bash the view of the first family. However, the more she reads the more she becomes aware that it is in fact, not a prank. Someone truly has leaked the confidential emails of Alex Claremont-Diaz.

Fuck.

In no universe could Zahra have imagined that this is how she would be spending her morning (is it truly morning if the sun hasn’t even risen yet?). This is the last thing she wishes she could be doing right now. She wants to be sleeping, dreaming of a world where she doesn’t have to deal with Alex’s bullshit any longer. But no. She’s here, and it is her legal obligation to continue to be here, forcing herself to learn the intimate details (and truly, they are quite intimate) of the first son’s relationship with the prince of fucking England. There are many things that Zahra will never be able to un-learn, and she questions how she will ever be able to make eye contact with the two of them ever again. Unfortunately, though, she has to keep reading. She has to know just what exactly could have been leaked in those emails. It is a matter of security involving the most private affairs of the White House’s citizens. It must be taken care of with the utmost seriousness.

Zahra is experiencing very conflicting emotions. On one hand, she is extremely relieved that nothing that posed a true threat was revealed to the public (you know, other than the first son’s sex life). On the other hand, Zahra is becoming increasingly aware of the fact that she now knows things about Alex and Henry that she will never be able to forget. Details of their personal thoughts and feelings have now been broadcast for everyone to see. She can’t help but think that this isn’t fair. They didn’t deserve for this to happen to them. They deserved to believe that their private correspondences would remain exactly that, private. They deserved to feel safe sharing the details of their lives on their own timelines. But they didn’t get that. They were forced to share all of their private moments with the world. That can never be taken back. The world will forever know about the freckles on Alex’s hip, and just how much Henry adores them.

Zahra thinks that she just might cry for them and the history they have been forced to make.
