The door slammed. A message loud and clear as the yelled insults, his desperate, hers angry, and the deafening silence that had followed. Hardy was stunned. He couldn’t believe the nerve Ellie had. To consider leaving. After everything.
Blindly, he stormed after her. Rainwater drenched his socks. The storm messed up his hair. He wanted to stop her, but he knew there were no words that would change her mind. In time she would regret her choice. Hardy knew, because their roles had once been reversed.
Except that Ellie had not run after him.
And Hardy had not looked back.
