Chapter 1: And Then There Were 10

Chapter Text

Growing up my mother told me that I would be an amazing hero one day, but eventually that ended. When I was four we went to a doctor to find out what my quirk was going to be. And that’s when my life flipped upside down.

“I’d give up if I were you,” the portly man said.

“Is something wrong?” My mother asked.

“Well, I x-rayed his foot and found that he has an extra joint in his pinky toe. Simply put when quirks appeared the human body was more streamlined whereas those without quirks aren’t. If there’s a joint in his pinky toe then he’s quirkless,” he explained.

“I see, thank you doctor,” my mom said.

That night I went home and watched my favorite video of All Might and when I asked my mom the most important question to me, she gave the wrong answer.

For ten years my mom’s friend’s son who was a year older than me began to use his quirk on me as “practice” and everyone else also joined him in bullying me. He even came up with a new name for me, Deku. My mom was my only support from all of these bullies since my dad died not long after I was born, but nothing good lasts forever.

She was caught in a villain attack and didn’t make it. I was then taken in by my aunt and her team of heroes. I moved in with them at their mountain station which doubled as an agency. They focused on mountain and nature based search and rescue.

“Hey Izuku,” Tomoko said, sitting next to me. It has been a week since I moved in with them. “How are you feeling?” she asked while I sat in the woods. She wore a blouse with pants instead of her hero costume.

“Empty.”

“It’s alright to feel that way. Is there anything I can do?”

“I-I think I just want to explore a bit more,” I said, looking into the woods.

“Alright. Hey, there’s a beach a few miles that way. Why don’t you check it out?”

“Sure,” I muttered, getting up and free running into the forest.

I learned how to do this from my mom’s push for me to learn parkour in the hopes of me deciding to do something other than just stay in the house. Eventually I found the beach and noticed that it was split partially with pebbles and partially with sand. I decided to go across the stone bit and just kept walking. I eventually saw an odd vehicle sitting near the edge of the water. I walked up to it and noticed that it was old but looked like the paint was put on just yesterday. It was black with green lines.

Car

I put my hand on the driver’s door and felt something odd come through me. Opening the door the inside looked like it was untouched for years. I was studying mechanical engineering to go to UA in the support course since I knew that I could never make it as a hero, and I could tell that this car was oddly in near perfect condition with just needing a small tune up. I decided to make a note of its location before heading back.

I walked through the woods and found my way back to the cabin-like building. I walked in and found Ms. Sosaki talking with Tomoko in the living room.

“Hey Izuku, did you have some fun?” Ms. Sosaki asked.

“Um, y-yeah, hey is there any reason there’s a car on the beach?” I asked.

“Hmm? Not that I know of,” Tomoko said, her voice confused. “Where was it at?”

“On the stoney side of the beach. It looked almost new despite it being an older American style car,” I said.

“Oh, no one’s gone to the stoney side of the beach in years. Honestly I just figured that it would be too easy for someone to twist their ankle,” Ms. Sosaki admitted.

“I-I was wondering, could you help me bring it here so I could fix it up? I have been studying mechanics and engineering to be a support engineer at UA and being able to show a car that I fixed up might be able to give me a bit of a boost,” I said.

“Hmm, I do have a favour or two to call in with a couple of heroes that have boats that could carry it to the docks and Yawara’s truck could tow it here. We have the extra shed you’ve put your tools in too,”  she said. “If Tomoko’s alright with it then I don’t see why not.”

“Sure, it’ll be good for you to find something to take your mind off of everything for a bit.”

The next day I watched as they loaded the csr just outside of the shed. Mr. Chatora and I pushed it in and onto some car raisers. Once he left I placed a few jacks under the car just to be extra careful.

I worked on the car and while I knew that I had more than a year and a half before the UA entrance exam but wanted to finish it. While I worked on the car a hidden compartment opened in the center console and in it laid what looked like an odd white and green watch but it was malformed and burnt, almost as if it had been near the center of an explosion.

Broken Watch

I couldn’t shake the feeling of how it reminded me of a couple of things I found in my parent’s stuff when I moved in. I quickly found the bag of stuff I thought would be interesting to tinker with and pulled out the odd green watch my dad had that didn’t tell time but still looked like a green hourglass with a black background.

Dad's Watch

After setting the two devices next to each other I felt like this was a puzzle and one piece was missing. I began searching through the bags to see if I could find anything else that was odd and could possibly fit in with this. I found my dad’s old green jacket with the number ten on it, an extremely old Native American dream catcher from his family(my dad’s family was from America and partially Native American), a small red half cape my mom had for some reason, and finally what I was looking for, a strange circular object that had the same symbol of my dad’s odd watch.

Mom's Device

I never saw either of them wear or use these objects, but I knew that they were connected somehow. I took the device to the bench and began to work on taking them all apart and seeing how they mixed together. I was confused slightly by the inner workings since all of them had mechanisms that I couldn’t quite understand. Despite all of the odd mechanisms and different computerized parts I felt like I had finally made them into a device that was actually usable. I still couldn’t figure out the original use for any of the devices beforehand but I felt like this device was usable once it seemingly powered up by itself. I used only metal from the three devices but made it less of a traditional watch and closer to a bracer.

Repaired Bracer

I looked at it as I tried to figure out how to best to figure out how it worked before a voice came from the device.

“Omnimatrix now online. Error: No connection to Codon Stream. Scanning: Numerous DNA broken or missing. Tennyson DNA located, attaching now.”

I watched as the device shot towards me with no warning. I lifted my left arm to defend myself assuming that the device was malfunctioning, however instead the metal morphed to fit onto my forearm. So I did the only reasonable thing, I yelled.

“AHH! What happened? How? Tennyson DNA?” I asked, trying to figure out why it attached itself to me. Wait, dad’s family was originally from America but moved here not long before quirks appeared, I think their name was Tennyson before it eventually became Midoriya, but how would it be able to change shape? I thought, feeling it out before touching two of the buttons at once.

Suddenly a small hologram appeared and a strange creature that looked like he was made of stone and flames appeared in the circle of the device as it raised. I grabbed the smaller grey circle near the base of the circle and turned it slightly and my eyes widened as the creature then changed to a guy who looked like he was made of crystals. I kept scrolling before landing back on the flame guy again. I counted ten in total. I went back to the one who looked like he was made of crystals and pushed down on the center of the device and felt something shift in me.

“Izuku, hey I heard some yelling,” Tomoko said, as the door opened and I was engulfed in a bright green light.

I looked around and noticed that I was bigger than normal and when I looked at my hands they looked like they were made of a greenish-blue crystal.

“Huh?” I asked as my voice was deeper.

“A Petrosapien!? How did you get on the planet?” Tomoko demanded as she got low in a defensive stance. “And what did you do with Izuku?”

“W-wait! Aunt Tomoko, it’s me, Izuku!” I said, quickly trying to defend myself. I looked and saw the same symbol from the bracer and pressed it hoping that I would go back to normal form. I was engulfed in a bright light again and noticed that I was me again. “S-see.”

“Izuku? How did you, that device on your arm, where did you get it?” she asked.

“I-I found a broken device in the car as I was fixing it up and it felt similar to these old things from my parents so I took them apart and combined them. The shell of the original one from the car is on the bench,” I explained, walking over and handing it to her.

“Impossible, the Omnitrix,” she muttered as if she saw a ghost. “Izuku, the devices from your parents, was one of them a badge like this one?” she asked, pulling out something that looked just like my mom’s.

“Y-yeah.”

“And was the other a thin green watch that had this symbol on it?”

“Yeah, w-what is going on?” I asked.

“I guess it’s time you learn the full truth, and then some,” she muttered, glancing at the watch and then the device now on me. “Come on,” Tomoko said, motioning for me to follow her into the cabin.

She led me into the living room and I noticed that Ms. Sosaki and Ms. Tsuchikawa both reacted to the device on me and came with us.

“Alright, so Izuku, I need you to listen and understand that everything I am about to say is one hundred percent true, alright?”

“A-alright.”

“First off, you know how your mom said that her and your father were plumbers? Well, I am one too, but not the kind of plumber you’re thinking of. You see, there’s an organization called the Plumbers who work to protect the Galaxy from major threats. Those who live on Earth are specifically here to protect it from Alien threats. Your father was killed on a mission, one that I was also on. You see, his family were Plumbers for generations, his some odd number of great grandfathers was a man named Ben Tennyson and he was considered the world’s first hero before quirks. He used a device called the Omnimatrix, or Omnitrix, to transform into different Aliens to protect the world and even the universe. During his last battle he used the energy in this to defeat his greatest foe once and for all. The device was ruined and instead of fixing it he said he hid it in case of emergencies. However, since that device stored numerous Alien DNA signatures when it was destroyed it accidentally sent those signatures into the atmosphere and eventually created quirks. The Plumbers were unsure of what the side effects would be and closed off Earth to the rest of the Universe. The device of your mother’s was her badge, your dad’s watch was a prototype of the Omnitrix that you found, and the one you found is what Ben used to save the world. Since the final battle happened right over Japan, Ben decided to move here to see if there were any side effects, but they didn’t appear for a bit since it took some time for the DNA signatures to enter people and activate in children,” Tomoko explained, her voice much more serious than I’ve ever heard. “Somehow, you managed to combine the prototype Omnitrix, the final Omnitrix, and a Plumber’s badge into a working new Omnitrix. So, I’m going to bring you into UA and have one of the smartest beings who know about the Omnitrix and Aliens, as well as the highest ranking Plumber in Japan, look at it and figure out what is going on with it,” she said.

“W-what? A-aliens?”

“Yeah, trust me it’s not as weird once you get used to it,” Ms. Sosaki said, smirking. “I’m going to come too.”

“Let’s go,” Tomoko said, getting up.
