Chapter 1: A wish

Chapter Text

"Veritas, did you ever think of running away?"
Ratio looked at the blonde haired boy laying next to him in surprise. This question seemed to come out of nowhere.
"Running away? Elaborate please"
The blonde haired boy reached out his hand in the air as trying to grasp the heavens above. For a few minutes his eyes wandered away in contemplation and only the soft wrestling of leaves could be heard.
"Imagine, we are two birds..." The boy started, and as if nature heard him a couple of birds flew away gracefully to the skies. "And we could go anywhere, nothing weighing on our shoulders, just the soft caress of the wind on our wings."
Ratio wasn't so sure, was there something he wanted to run away from?
Maybe if he was a simple bird only acting on instincts he would be more pleasant to be around. Wouldn't it be perfect to just belong to a swarm of birds, wouldn't it perfect to just belong?
He shakes those thoughts out of his head preferring to not linger on them to not open a can of worms he isn't ready to face.
"And do you have something to run away from kakavasha?" He tries to shift the conversation from himself instantly regretting it as he sees the sad smile on the other's face.
"At least not from you."
It took veritas a long time to understand the meaning of these words.
----------------------------------------- Veritas woke up to the sunlight shining through his room's curtains. He sits up and rubs his eyes still burning from the image of that dream, that memory? He isn't sure but it never left him, not even one night.
He sighs and slips away from his bed. He didn't have time to ponder, classes begin today signaling the start of a new university year, and it would make a bad impression to be late at his first lecture for the year.
He walks to the kitchen mindly debating if he should wake caelus up, or perhaps not. He decides not to, maybe his roommate (could he be called friend?) Will finally learn to set an alarm.
Soon enough he heard the hurried footsteps of his roommate storming into the kitchen. He smirks to himself at the humorous display.
"Not cool dude! You should have woken me up!" Caelus accused with a pout
"Don't fret there is still time. Besides how else would you learn from your mistakes?"
"But-"
"You will waste more time by arguing. Sit, I made breakfast for you too"
Caelus finally admits defeat but that didn't change the annoyed expression on his face as he sat down, but it quickly disappeared when he took a bite of the battered toast.
Ratio chuckles which made caelus raise an eye brow but it quickly disappeared aswell.
Ratio wondered how his roommate could jump from one thing to another with so much ease. Isn't it exhausting? But again he never saw someone packing more energy than caelus.
When they were first paired together in the dorm room, ratio immediately felt irritation. How couldn't he? His roommate was loud, talkative and unpredictable. They were obviously incompatible.
But to his surpise caelus never felt overbearing, and he found amusement in their playful banter. His roommate knew when to leave ratio alone and when to keep him company.
As they both finished getting ready they left the dorm heading to the main building together, they had class in the same lecture hall so it was convenient.
Ratio sat at his usual seat while caelus sat further in the back with his friends. What were their names again? Dan heng and march?
He didn't take offense to that, he admits that he isn't the best person to be around. He was judgmental, rude, and oblivious to the latest trends and actualities. He already made peace with the fact that veritas ratio would never fit in. It's not that he never made friends, they just never stuck around and their friendship were always on the surface level.
There was just that one person- he shook his head chasing away those thoughts, he should focus on what their professor is about to say.
He picks up his pen and notebook. Most other students prefered to take notes on their laptop but he loves it the traditional way, it kept his hands busy and sharpened his focus.
But as he was about to begin writing, another student sat next to him. He wouldn't have spared them a glance normally but something was unusual.
That blonde hair, that face, and those eyes. He would never forget those eyes. He isn't mistaken, it's definitely him.
"Kakavasha?" He questioned before he could stop himself and the stranger turned to him, with a foreign smirk on his face. A smile ratio could never imagine crossing his former friend's face. He wasn't so sure if this is the same kakavasha he knew.
Almost like his former friend, no, the stranger, heard his thoughts, he opened his mouth to say: "you are mistaken me for someone else... my name is aventurine"
