Work Text:
It was about 2 am in the morning when Steve woke up to a scream that would have woken up the whole house if he and Eddie weren’t alone.
He shifted to sit up, and looked over at the man next to him who was now sitting up and panting. He slowly moved his arm around his shoulder gently, not trying to scare him. He got a little flinch out of him, but it wasn’t much.
“Eds, it’s okay I’m here.”
Steve said with a gentle tone , trying to calm him from whatever nightmare he’d just come from.
Eddie just looked at him and nodded, his eyes glossy.
“‘M sorry.”
He said, wrapping his arms around Steve and letting out a small sob into his neck.
“Hey, hey, it’s okay baby.” The younger man responded, now both arms around him, and he gave him a gentle peck to the cheek.
“Was just a nightmare.”
He reassured him, feeling the metal-heads tears soak his shirt.
“Breathe, Ed’s, you’re okay.”
He took breaths for Eddie to follow, and he did. His breathing was a little shaky, but at least he was trying.
“This is so stupid..”
The metalhead muttered, a shaky sigh being let out, followed by another sob.
“Why can’t the nightmares stop..”
The younger man again, shushed him and his hand traveled to his back , caressing it gently.
“You know it was traumatizing, it’s okay to have nightmares about it. Eddie you almost died.”
He tried comforting him, but Eddie didn’t listen.
“But I’m not a little kid.”
It was hardly audible, but Steve heard him. He paused for a few seconds and shook his head, pulling the older man closer to him.
“I have nightmares too. It’s normal to have nightmares, love.”
Eddie sighed and pulled away from his neck, instead of looking into his eyes, he looked down at his lips. He wasn’t always one to like eye contact, especially when he’s upset.
“Eds, please look at me”
Steve said, moving his hand to his chin to lift it.
“It’s okay to have nightmares.”
He repeated, and leaned in to place a gentle kiss to his lips. Eddie quickly returned the kiss and moved his hands to Steve’s cheeks.
“I love you.”
The metalhead mumbled against his lips.
“I love you too.” Steve repeated back, pushing himself against the older man, pushing him so that he was now lying back on the bed again, which earned a chuckle from him.

Eddie woke up the next morning, seeing that the man he was with all night wasn’t in the bed with him anymore. He got up slowly and was met with the smell of food cooking downstairs.
He went to the bathroom and walked downstairs to see him cooking at the stove. He smiled softly, liking the sight of him. He walked over behind him and wrapped his arms around his waist, stuffing his face in his neck.
“‘G’morning, sweet boy..”
Steve spoke as he felt Eddies arms around him, and he glanced over his neck.
“How you feeling? Better?”
Eddie hummed and nodded at that.
“Yeah.”
He responded with a sleepy voice. Steve knows that he was never really a morning bird.
He finished up with the food and put it on two plates. One for himself, and one for his boyfriend.
Once they finished eating, they went to the couch and watched a movie together, cuddled close to each other.
