Work Text:

Spending time with Kacchan is already one of Izuku’s favorite things in the world, but getting to watch an All Might movie with him? Easily the best thing ever.

Izuku’s a ball of delighted energy as he jumps up and down while his mom sets it up, Kacchan sitting cooly on the couch with a giant bowl of popcorn in his lap. The movie they’re watching is a newer one, so Izuku’s only seen it three times, but Kacchan hasn’t gotten to see it yet so it’s basically like Izuku’s watching it for the first time, too.

“Go sit down, Izuku,” his mom laughs fondly. “I’ve got it.”

Izuku nods happily, scrambling over to his place besides Kacchan who automatically tilts the bowl towards Izuku to eat from. Izuku’s still bouncing in place, happily bumping his shoulder against Kacchan’s.

“This movie better change my life,” Kacchan grumbles, but he looks pleased, not pulling away when Izuku simply leans against him.

“It will, Kacchan! All Might looks so cool!”

“Of course he does, he’s always cool,” Kacchan sniffs, but there’s a smile tugging at his lips, so Izuku knows he’s just as excited as he is.

Finally, his mom pulls away, starting the movie and dimming the lights. She leaves the room afterwards, giving Izuku a small kiss on his forehead before she does. Izuku always asks her to leave them alone when Kacchan is over. Not only because he wants Kacchan all to himself, but also because he knows Kacchan feels more comfortable when it’s just the two of them.

As soon as she’s gone, Kacchan starts talking animatedly, giving Izuku a step-by-step rundown of his day so far, of his other favorite All Might movies (all of which Izuku already knows and has seen, of course), and what he thinks the best snacks are (he thinks popcorn is a higher tier snack, which Izuku finds great pleasure in).

When the movie starts truly getting into it, Kacchan goes quiet, eyes wide as he tracks the cool animation of All Might flying across the screen to defeat another group of villains. Izuku’s having a harder time than he is paying attention, not sure if he wants to watch the movie or Kacchan himself, so his eyes are constantly flickering between the two.

At one point, Kacchan notices his staring and rolls his eyes, shoving a mouthful of popcorn in his mouth and looking back at the TV. Izuku grins. Kacchan’s the best friend ever.

He doesn’t think there could be anything in the world that’s better than this.

🍿

The film Sashide-sensei is making them watch is a boring one, even if he did give each of them a small plate of popcorn to make it seem otherwise. Ishi has already fallen asleep next to him while Machiko on his other side starts doing her nails not even fifteen minutes into it. Izuku’s already pulled out his notebook, idly drawing some of the newer heroes he’s been seeing on the news, but when Machiko scoffs at him, he stops, swallowing down his discomfort.

Why do they even need to be here if Sashide-sensei isn’t even going to teach them? Can’t they just use the free time to work on homework instead?

So, Izuku puts his notebook away, propping his chin against his palm while he watches the woman on screen explain in great detail how she’s best suited for the office job she’s, for some reason, desperately yearning for.

When Izuku gets bored again, he can’t help but stare at Kacchan, his gaze always drawn to the other boy like a moth to a flame. A deku to a hero.

Kacchan’s slumped against the back of his seat, arms crossed as he stares resolutely ahead, his popcorn plate already empty. Izuku can tell that Kacchan’s not paying attention to the film—he’s probably thinking that this is stupid, too. Izuku wonders what else he’s thinking. Izuku wonders what movies Kacchan watches in his free time—if he still likes watching All Might ones or if he thinks those are beneath him, too. Izuku doubts it. Kacchan’s still obvious in his love for the No. 1 Hero, even if he tries to act cool about it.

Izuku sighs, idly wondering what he’ll be eating for dinner tonight instead, but the sigh must have been louder than he thought because all at once, Kacchan is snapping his head to glare at him.

“Stop fucking looking at me, creep,” Kacchan mutters, low enough that Sashide-sensei doesn’t hear, but loud enough for Izuku to. Not that it would matter even if he did get caught. Sashide-sensei loves Kacchan. Kacchan’s the perfect student, outside from his obvious bullying, but everybody looks the other way. It’s only Deku, after all.

Izuku fumbles to reply, say something like, Kacchan, it wasn’t like that, the movie is just boring, but Kacchan is already turning back around, shoulders tense now. Izuku bites his lip, heart racing, and he looks back down at his desk, his notebook staring back up at him.

He wants to go home.

🍿

Izuku isn’t quite sure how he got here.

All he remembers is being cornered by Kacchan before he had gotten on the elevator and the flush to Kacchan’s neck and ears when he had asked.

“Oi, Izuku, do you… ugh, do you want to watch a movie tonight? In my room?”

Izuku had stared at him, still too preoccupied by the pretty blush of Katsuki’s skin. His eyes seemed to shine brighter under the fluorescent lighting of their dorms, and he’s dressed comfortably, as if he was already ready to go to bed.

Finally, his brain seemed to start working again.

“Oh! Uhm, yes, of course, Kacchan! I’d love that?” He swallowed. “Am I… is this a… uh. Sorry, what time, I mean?”

Izuku’s convinced Katsuki was going to call him out for acting like a freak, but Katsuki didn’t do any of that. Instead, his flushing seemed to extend even farther, spreading out over his face now, and Izuku could only stare, absolutely enraptured by the sight of it. Was Kacchan…?

“Just come around seven.”

Izuku nodded. “Do I need to bring anything?”

Katsuki had stared at him like he’s stupid for approximately two seconds. Then, a slight scoff. “No, you don’t need to bring anything. Just bring your nerdy little self, got it?”

“Okay, Kacchan!”

So, here Izuku is now, nestled comfortably on Kacchan’s bed (oh my god!!) as he leaned up against the wall. Kacchan’s stocked his room with every snack imaginable, but the popcorn is what Izuku went for first, Kacchan seeming to blush even more when Izuku had stammered out an enthusiastic thanks.

Kacchan’s setting up the film on his TV (which Izuku is seeing now for the first time ever because wow, he’s in Kacchan’s room), grumbling when it doesn’t seem to be working. He still hasn’t told Izuku what they’re watching, but by the look of the Blu-ray case, he can guess it’s something to do with All Might.

“Uhm… do you need any help, Kacchan?” Izuku finally asks when Katsuki’s failed to start the movie for the tenth time in five minutes. Katsuki’s gaze snaps to him and Izuku watches in real-time as his glares softens.

Oh.

“No, it’s fine, D-Izuku. My stupid player just acts up sometimes. It’ll work soon.”

And, as if Kacchan were the God of Blu-ray Players himself, it does work out, a familiar production company popping up on the screen. Izuku can’t help his grin.

“Wow. I can’t even remember the last time I saw this movie.”

Katsuki grunts, standing awkwardly before finally, he seems to talk himself into moving into action, hesitantly situating himself beside Izuku on the bed. Their thighs touch; Izuku doesn’t pull away.

“Yeah, well, it’s not like we’ve had the time. Especially you. Don’t think I haven’t noticed how hard you’ve been working yourself, nerd.”

Izuku laughs, stilted and unsure because Oh, Kacchan is leaning against him now, and Izuku completely forgets what they were talking about, his heartbeat suddenly so loud in his ears he’s almost convinced he’s about to die.

“Izuku, you with me?”

Izuku makes the mistake of turning his head then because Kacchan is right there, and Kacchan's breaths seem to come out shorter and then longer and then shorter again, as if he's having a difficult time controlling them.

Swallowing, Izuku nods. “I’m with you, Kacchan.”

Katsuki’s answering smile is gorgeous, stealing the air right from Izuku’s lungs, and Kacchan nods, pleased. When he turns his head to face the screen, Izuku can’t help but notice how crimson red his ears are. Izuku swallows again, forcing himself to face the TV as well.

“So,” Katsuki says when the menu pops up, All Might’s winning smile seeming to emit its own light. “You gonna hog all the popcorn like usual?”

Izuku rolls his eyes, tilting the bowl to share.

“Of course not, Kacchan,” Izuku says innocently. “After all, I know you’ll probably knock it over again because you'll get too excited watching the film.”

Kacchan scowls. “That was one time, you shitty nerd, don’t—”

Izuku’s too busy giggling to even hear the rest of Katsuki’s grumbling.

🍿

Izuku makes sure the lights are dimmed to just the right setting before he settles on the couch. Immediately, Hoshiko is all over him, her grabby hands fumbling to pull the remote from his hands. Izuku rolls his eyes fondly, leaning back as she pulls up the menu screen, Godzilla’s familiar roar filling the silence of the room.

“Got it,” Kacchan says upon entering the room, a cup of warm tea in his hand. Hoshiko sniffles, her nose still slightly congested, but that’ll be helped by the tea and medicine they’ve already given her soon enough. They’ve both taken a few days off to take care of her, and to celebrate her getting better, they agreed to finally give into her pleas to watch the new Godzilla film.

Hoshiko thanks Kacchan with a cute smile, throwing herself on top of Kacchan as soon as he sits down, turning her body so she’s sitting on his lap facing the TV. She’s in her “I love Daddy more than Papa” phase so Izuku can’t be too surprised by it. She’ll come back around and love Izuku more soon enough, and Katsuki must read his thoughts on his face because he smirks at him.

“Ha,” he mutters, smug. Izuku rolls his eyes, simply throwing his arm over Katsuki’s shoulders, Katsuki tucking in slightly against him after he does.

Izuku wants to reply but he knows Hoshiko will scold him as soon as he does—she hates when they talk during her special Godzilla time, as she so lovingly calls it.

When Godzilla is finally revealed in all his glory, she jumps up, standing up and mimicking his roar. It’s so cute that they both start laughing immediately, Kacchan tucking his face against Izuku’s neck while he does, his breaths warm and comfortable against Izuku’s skin. Hoshiko turns to face them immediately at the sound, her scowl so like Kacchan’s that Izuku starts cracking up even more.

“Papa, you aren’t allowed to laugh at me. I don’t laugh at you when you’re being all mushy with Daddy! Godzilla is going to be my husband one day.”

Unfortunately for Hoshiko, that makes them both laugh even more, tears pricking at their eyes as she pouts adorably at them. Eventually, she gets bored of them, turning back to face the screen, continuing to roar back at Godzilla each time he does.

“She’s such a little weirdo.” Kacchan snickers, pulling back and letting Izuku kiss him. He tastes like the butter from the popcorn. “Just like you.”

Izuku rolls his eyes. “You’re the one who bought her that Godzilla plush, Kacchan." He shakes his head sadly. "She’s just never been the same after that….”

Katsuki groans softly, ducking his head so he’s pressed up against Izuku again, his hair sticking up into Izuku’s mouth and nose. Ah. A classic Distract Izuku technique. Izuku’s all too used to Katsuki’s games now.

Unfortunately, no matter how well Izuku knows Kacchan, it still works, Izuku immediately bringing his hand up to tug gently at his hair. He still can't understand how it's as soft as it is. Although, it's a part of Kacchan so Izuku supposes it does make sense. Hmm. Something to ponder.

“Love you, Izuku,” Kacchan mumbles then, pulling Izuku's thoughts away from the intricacies of Katsuki as a person. And. And—

Izuku grins, doing his best to hold back his tears, heart suddenly so full it seems to overwhelm him. He doesn’t want to cry right now, even if sometimes he wants to cry so much at how lucky he feels just to be alive.

Because spending time with Kacchan is already one of Izuku’s favorite things in the world, but getting to build a family and home with him?

Easily the best thing ever.
