Work Text:
they wouldn’t ever admit they were a little jealous of mitsi. happy was more like it, really. but it was something xey admired a lot about her.
they wanted to hold xerself in life like she did, keep their head up despite challenges and being able to trust so easily. of course, she was different when it came to their creation, but it was still something shocking, dangerous, almost. danger for letting people you didn’t even know close.
it was a skill greater than survival that victim couldn’t answer with flight-or-flight.
but really, how would they know? what a silly thing it felt like to live, satisfied in a world where the path warped its way into pits, where the rain drew sparks and the walls and roof was the confinement.
but mitsi. she’ll know. she was everything victim wished, childishly before it was wiped away.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and now she was gone.
they wanted now, more than anything to want to live. not surviving, ploughing through blades and the explosions of fireworks to be met with the same fate, but to live. to dance in the meadows and planting flowers in spring. to look out the window to watch the falling snow.
to be loved rather than feared or hated. to be her, the love itself.
of course she wasn’t perfect. but no one was. but she’ll know more than xey ever did about this world. she
wants
to live.
unlike them, what a silly thing.
why was it that she was the one who died? why is it that the people who want to live are always the first ones to leave? why have xey still be able to continue breathing, in this cruel, cruel little world. why did she have to struggle to keep living, when xey struggled to live?
perhaps she did know. or maybe she wouldn’t.
it’s too late to even ask.
