To put into words how Kate Bishop is feeling right about now is easy. Exhausted and drained. She has been studying for her upcoming finals for god only knows how long. She and a bunch of her collage friends had been in the library for at least 10 hours a day to try and save their grads, but her final year in collage truly wasn't a joke. 5 exams and 1 writing assignment all due in a period of 3 weeks.
It's just so tiring.
Kate has not been able to go to the gym for weeks. Her body ist twitching to get some sort of workout in and Lucky looks at her like she hasn't been on a walk with him for a year. And Kate really does feel bad for him. And for Fanny. And for Yelena.
She hasn't had the time for a proper date night in at least 4 weeks. And Kate hates everything about the current situation. She hates waking up at the crack of dawn just to maybe have 5 minutes with Yelena before Kate haas to get up and get ready to go study. She hates coming home when it's already dark and she hates how pouty her two dogs get when they realise that Kate has zero energy to play with them.
But what Kate hates the most, is how good Yelena takes all of it. She is the one who makes sure Kate eats breakfast and has a warm dinner whenever she comes home. Yelena is the one who is walking their dogs like 50 times a day to keep them entertained. She is the one who gets up in the morning with Kate just so they can spend 5 minutes together. She is the one who keeps up with Kates mood swings after a particularly hard day where nothing wanted to go as Kate had planned.
To put it shortly. Yelena has been an angel. And Kate has been standing outside their apartment door for at least 10 minutes now. Just to think about Yelena and how grateful she is for her. Kate is contemplating going to the store on the corner just to get Yelena some flowers and the chocolate she says she doesn't like. She turns around and takes a step, but then the door to their apartment opens and the dogs come storming out closely followed by Yelena.
"Where do you think you are going Kate Bishop? It is late and I was looking forward to spend some time with my girlfriend after she studied so hard all day." Yelena says with a raised eyebrow. She stands in the doorway, arms crossed, leaning against one side oft the frame. Some would think she is pissed, but the smirk on her face tells Kate otherwise. She can't help but smile, as she leans down to greet her babies. They run between her legs and try to give her kisses and they are just so fucking happy to see her. Kates smile drops. She feels so incredibly guilty that tears welled up in her eyes. She frowned. That was so not cool of her. She shouldn't worry Yelena anymore than she already has but it isn't really her choice. She is just so fucking exhausted.
Kate tries to lean against the wall, but misses it by a couple of inches and hits her upper back against it, hard. Yelena is instantly sitting beside her.
"Kate Bishop, what seems to be the matter? You know I didn't mean it like that." She reassures Kate. Putting her hand onto Kates shoulder and squeezing lightly. Kate just shakes her head. The tears won't fall, but they are in her eyes nevertheless, as she looks into Yelena's. Yelena frowns at her, like she is a puzzle that Yelena is trying to figure out. Then her face softens incredibly fast.
"Ah Kate Bishop I see. I understand now." She says as she gets up. Kate gives her a confused look, but takes the offered hand from Yelena anyway. Before she can register what is happening, Yelena pulls her up against her body and lifts her off the ground. Kates reflexes kick in and she secures her legs around Yelena's hips. Yelena adjusts her grip on Kates thighs and hoists her a bit higher onto her hip. As Yelena starts walking, Kate rests her head against her neck and breaths in her sent.
It is so very calming.
Yelena whistles for their dogs to follow them into their apartment and kicks the door shut behind them. She doesn't let go of Kate Bishop until she is in the bathroom. With as much gracefulness and care that Yelena can muster, she places Kate onto the edge of their bathtub and takes a little step back. She takes Kates cheek into her hand and tilts her face up so she can get a better look at her Kate Bishop. What she sees is her beautiful girlfriend, but she also sees the tried eyes, the tightly pinched together eyebrows and the overall overwhelmed features of her girlfriend.
It makes Yelena incredibly sad, but she is also so utterly proud of Kate and her trust in Yelena to let her see this side of her. So Yelena smiles a very small smile and shifts a bit closer to Kate. She kisses the crown of her head softly, feels how Kate Bishop practically melts into the little kiss and smiles a bit brighter.
After she takes a little step back, not without protest from her girlfriend of course, Yelena says
"How about this Kate Bishop. I will get a bath going for you, with these lavender scented bath bombs you like and then we get takeout from this Chinese place that you like so much. I already walked the dogs three times today, they should be zoned out for today. And after we have eaten we will watch this show in bed and sleep for like 20 hours." She says softly. And it sounds like heaven to Kate, but she has to do more studying tomorrow. Before she can protest, Yelena cuts her off.
"I don't want to hear it Kate Bishop. I love you to much to watch you burn yourself out before you turn 30." is what she says. And then she leans down to get the water in the bathtub started.
"Please undress so that we can get into this nice bath that I am preparing solely for my beautiful girlfriend." Kate nods dumbly and starts to undress. While she is doing that, Yelena is walking through the bathroom, lighting every candle they own and placing them strategically where the dogs won't get to. After Kate is naked she feels shy, so she crosses her arms over her chest and sits back down onto the edge of the bathtub. Yelena sees and tilts her head a bit. A soft smile on her lips as she also starts to undress. Nudity is no issue between the two of them, they have slept together multiple times, but this is something they don't to very often. Casual intimacy is something that Yelena isn't used to so Kate tries to be respectful. Yelena is turning to turn off the lights and the bathroom is left looking like a scene straight out of a movie.
Yelena gets in first. She leans her back against the back of the tub und spreads her legs under the bubbles. Her knees stick out but nothing else. Kate sees this as the invitation it is and climbs in after Yelena. Her back against Yelena's front. She lets herself sink into Yelena's soft embrace and closes her eyes. The following deep breath is the most relaxing she has taken in what feels like forever.
She turn her head to kiss Yelena's cheek and murmurs softly
"Cпасибо, моя любовь" (Thank you, my love)
Yelena smiles. She loves when Kate Bishop uses her mother tongue.
"всегда, мой маленький ястреб, всегда" she breaths back and tightens her arms around Kates waist. Yelena feels Kate melt into the embrace and smiles, content with herself and the situation and oh so happy the be given the chance to take care of somebody that she loves dearly.
Three weeks later Yelena receives the most loving, heartfelt proposal that she could have wished for. And lots of flowers, because Kate Bishop is a woman of her word.
Also the dogs get new toys and leashes. Because they are her babies.
