Chapter Text
Evelyn walked slightly nervously towards the laboratory. She knew she had been walking much longer than the captain would have liked. Before opening the door, she took one last deep breath. She opened the door, her eyes taking a moment to adjust to the darkness. She looked around the lab. The first thing that caught Evelyn's eye were large tanks filled with green liquid. She noticed a desk with a computer that gave light to the room, there were also a lot of documents, notes and various transparent cans of unknown origin. At the corner of the room there was a bed, surprisingly neat. There was another doors, one probably leading to the captain's room, while the other... Well, even Evelyn didn't know.
“You are late. It took you longer than it should have to. Next time, hurry up.” The person behind the tanks spoke, clearly irritated by this situation. “If there is going to be next time”. He added more cheerfully.
Evelyn stood frozen, not knowing what to answer.
“Of course, captain Kurotsuchi. It won’t happen again”. Mayuri leaned out from behind the tanks, showing where she should come
“Whatever, come I need you to do something.”
She approached the captain, slightly scared, not knowing what he would ask her to do. Meanwhile, she was watching Mayuri's face despite the poor lighting. As usual, his face was covered in makeup. His entire face was white, and in the middle of his face he had something like a skull painted with black paint, but his nose remained white. His neck and arms were also covered in white paint. He was dressed in a regular Shinigami’s uniform witch was covered with a white captain's haori. There were golden cones where the ears should have been, just like on the chin. The only thing he wasn't wearing was his characteristic hat. He had short dark blue hair where the hat should have been. His golden-honey eyes watched her carefully.
“Come faster, I do not have an eternity”. Mayuri's irritated voice returned. Evelyn immediately accelerated. Mayuri gave her a pen and notebook. “Take this and write down what I say, you'll be of some use at least once.”
“As you wish, captain Kurotsuchi”. She took a pen and notebook.
Mayuri rolled his eyes. For the next half hour, Mayuri explained what he was doing, Evelyn wrote down notes carefully, not wanting to make a mistake. Nemu came into the room, apologizing for disturbing them.
“Yes, indeed, you are disturbing me, Nemu.” Mayuri was annoyed that Nemu entered the laboratory.
“I assume you have business with me since you're here” Evelyn watched the conversation without saying a word.
“Master Mayuri, documents have arrived at the division, without delay you should go there and confirm their receipt”
“Documents and documents, can't you take care of it yourself? I'm busy.” Mayuri smacked his lips in annoyance.
“I'm afraid that it won't be possible. The captain must be present. Then documents need to be checked by the captain, these are documents from the head-captain. For sure, only captains can have insight.” Nemu explained.
“Fine, fine. I am coming, but let’s make it quickly. I don’t have time for documents.” Mayuri became even more irritated and flustered.
Evelyn sat still, not knowing what to do. She watched as he reached for his hat and headed to the exit. Suddenly Mayuri remembered about the woman. He stopped and turned to her.
“Hey, you. What was your name? Doesn’t matter, stay here and wait for me. Do not touch anything, life of yours depends on it.” Mayuri said as he left the laboratory with Nemu.
Evelyn sat for a moment, stunned by the captain's words. She waited for him to return without touching anything.
