Chapter Text
This room could be the last room Nam-gyu ever walked into, he tried not to dwell on that. He was here to make money, not die. He trailed Thanos, looking around the brightly coloured room. It was a mockery, hundreds of people dying in happy bright rooms while playing children’s games. So why was he stressed? He had allies, he considered himself strong. He would be fine, these games were literally child's play.
“Please divide into groups of five in the next ten minutes.” The same overly happy voice announced over the speakers, Thanos's eyes rapidly looked between both Gyeong-su and Nam-gyu as if he was struggling to count them,
“Gyeong-su, Nam-su, Thanos…” He muttered to himself, counting them on his fingers. Nam-gyu rolled his eyes at the man, he was absolutely useless when high. If it came down to it he’d probably end up being the reason he died.
“We need two more people!” He triumphantly announced, stalking off to find someone. Nam-gyu sighed and followed after him, Gyeong-su not far behind. He trusted Thanos to find someone helpful, but maybe he overestimated him.
“Señorita, Excuse me?” He walked up to a girl, confidence oozing out of him as he flashed her a smirk, Nam-gyu tried not to roll his eyes. Not another one of his fleeting crushes.
The girl turned around, before looking Thano’s up and down, if she was feeling any emotion it didn’t show on her face. She appeared almost bored.
“Let’s play the game together,” Thanos said with a nod as if sealing the deal already.
Nam-gyu considered reaching out to pull Thanos away and find someone more capable, but he turned away before he could touch him and instead focused on the ground. Thanos was clearly only going after the girl because she was pretty. Nam-gyu wasn’t quite sure why it annoyed him.
“Well, why should I?” She asked sceptically, looking over at Nam-gyu for a brief second. He avoided her gaze, he didn’t want any involvement in Thanos’s monkey business.
“You don’t know who he is?” Gyeong-su piped up, God, sometimes Nam-gyu could just slap him in the face. What was his deal? Why did he treat Thanos like a god? “He’s Thanos, the Rapper.” Thanos crossed his arms into some sort of strange dominance pose, Nam-gyu looked away. To make matters worse Gyeong-su started trying to rap one of Thanos’s songs, except he was off-key and off time, Nam-gyu could slap him. He finally spoke up,
“Hang on a girl? We don’t know what the game is?” He argued, looking at Thanos, but his eyes were already back on the girl.
“I, Thanos the great, will protect you.” Thanos pointed at the girl,
“Right, Thanos.” She said, clearly not having much interest in his dramatics. “So do you have all the infinity stones?” She asked with a smile, almost teasingly. Thanos took no offence, spreading his fingers out and flaunting his horribly done nails.
“Of course.” He answered in English, Nam-gyu never bothered with English, so he had no idea what he was blabbing about. “I’m going to destroy anyone that gets in my way!” He yelled, making big exaggerated fighting poses, he somehow looked proud of himself. “Just stick with me and you’ll be safe, okay?” He said, slightly more seriously, walking up to the girl.
“But I already asked someone to join me.” She admitted
“No problem.” Thanos said in butchered English, “Who is it?”
She moved to the side to reveal a man, even smaller than her, with a round face and short black hair. Nam-gyu didn’t even try to hide his laugh. This guy? Seriously? He was so pathetic. Nam-gyu was going to die…
“What’s your name?” Thanos asked with a nod.
“It’s Min-su.” Nam-gyu walked closer to Thanos,
“He looks like a freaking dork.” He spat, looking at Min-su unfavourably. But Thanos put a hand in front of him and walked up to Min-su.
“What’s up? Nice to meet you my brother, welcome to the Thanos world.” Nam-gyu couldn’t tell what he was saying, but he was making a bunch of stupid gestures so it was definitely something idiotic. He shook Min-su’s hand before pulling him into a half hug.
“You’re cute, come on.”
While Thanos was showing off to Se-mi—that was what her name was apparently, though Nam-gyu didn’t really make an effort to remember it—Nam-gyu turned to Gyeong-su.
“What do you say we ditch these losers and go find someone better?” Nam-gyu said to him, loud enough to be heard by Gyeong-su, but not the others. He wasn’t particularly fond of Gyeong-su, or anyone so far. But he was a follower, pressure him enough and he’d do what you wanted. While Nam-gyu didn’t mind Thanos, he wouldn’t be caught dead teaming up with a girl and her pitiful tag-along.
Gyeong-su caught the annoyance in Nam-gyu’s eyes, but his cowardice shone through,
“I’m not sure… Nam-gyu I think you’re been a little dramatic, we don’t even know the game.” He said with an apologetic shrug, Nam-gyu scoffed. What a wimp. “Just chill out a little okay?” He tried reasoning, but Nam-gyu had made up his mind.
“Holy shit, Gyeong-su do you want to die? Look at those two, they’ll never be useful in any category, and personally, I’m not quite ready to die.” Nam-gyu took hold of Gyeong-su’s collar,
“Thanos is stoned most of the time anyways, why do you follow him around like a lost dog?” Nam-gyu tightened his grip. Gyeong-su squirmed around, horror in his eyes. Nam-gyu turned around to look at Thanos, but he was still engrossed by Se-mi. “You’re such a pushover Gyeong-su.” Namgyu hissed.
Before Nam-gyu could berate Gyeong-su anymore there was a loud distinct voice behind them,
“Gyeong-su? Nam-su?” Thanos peeked over at them, Nam-gyu quickly dropped Gyeong-su before Thanos could catch him. If that little fucker said anything he’d kill him. “What are you two up too?” He said cheerfully, wrapping his arms around the two boys and pulling them close to him. Nam-gyu gave Gyeong-su a hard stare, hopefully conveying his message.
“Well? Nam-su?” Thanos turned his head to Nam-gyu, he was so clueless…
“Nam-gyu.” He corrected bluntly.
“Right, right. Sooo? What did I miss out on?” Thanos brushed Nam-gyu off and turned to Gyeong-su hoping to get more answers. Did he see Nam-gyu threatening him? He was so sure he was too focused on Se-mi no notice them.
“N-nothing.” Gyeong-su choked out, Thanos groaned and let go of them,
“You guys are so boring! I need some fun!” Gyeong-su and Nam-gyu both looked at Thanos quizzically while he burst out in English. He groaned and walked away with a droop in his step
Well, what now? No way in hell would Nam-gyu team up with a bunch of losers, it was certain death. Gyeong-su have joined Thanos in gawking at the pair, if only Nam-gyu had a knife. Without them noticing he slipped away, looking for anyone worth pairing with, but everyone else was either losers or taken. When Nam-gyu finally thought he found a group of people worth teaming up with he heard Thanos’s booming voice,
“Hey? Where’s Nam-su?!” In almost an instant Thanos’s arm was wrapped around Nam-gyu’s shoulders, wasn’t he on the other side of the room? Thanos frowned at the people Nam-gyu had been talking to, “Are you guys trying to steal my boy? Well, he’s in our group, back off!” Nam-gyu ran a hand through his hair, why did he have to ruin everything? Thanos spat out something in terrible English before dragging Nam-gyu along with him,
“What were you doing with those losers? You already have the best group in the room! We’re unstoppable!” He said proudly, punching his arm into the air as if he was some sort of lunatic. “C'mon Nam-su, that made me a little sad, I thought we were friends?” He turned Nam-gyu around with a pout, Nam-gyu shrugged,
“You never know when you will need more allies.” It was a lame defence, Thanos already knew he hated people, but he seemed too high to figure it out. He nodded along lamely.
“Yeah! You’re right! I’m so lucky to have such a smart guy on my team!” Thanos smirked and skipped off happily, what was wrong with him?
Nam-gyu was once something like Gyeong-su, following after Thanos like it was a full-time job. It took him 3 months to realise Thanos didn’t care about him, he was so pathetic. He kept Thanos around for his personal gain, that was all. Yet Thanos didn’t seem to be gaining anything, more losing things.
The timer ended not long after, and Nam-gyu was stuck with the band of losers, he started accepting his death then and there. His team was full of a bunch of idiots, he bounced his knee up and down while they sat on the sand, waiting for the first game to start. These imbeciles would be the last faces he ever saw, he lived a pathetic run. Thanos noticed his growing irritation, his turned to look at Nam-gyu,
“You good Nam-su?”
“Nam-gyu.” He looked away from Thanos, he couldn’t even remember his name, why did he even bother with him? Thanos pulled out a small cross necklace and popped it open, taking a brightly coloured pill. Nam-gyu’s eyes snapped on the small pills, now that was something he could get behind.
“You think you could spare one?”
Thanos looked up at Nam-gyu concerned, he shrugged and lifted up his sleeve revealing a scar from where he injected Heroin into his bloodstream. Thanos shrugged and tossed him one, finally something useful from this guy. He leaned back slightly and let the drugs take control, at least if he died he’d die high, as his true self.
