Work Text:
Kaz's voice was never the same after the Reapers Barge. As a child, he sounded like he had a perpetual cold. As a teenager, when his friends' voices were changing and breaking, his rasp deepened, harsher and uglier.
He didn't admit the pain of it: neither the perpetual ache in his throat, nor the knowledge that he would never sound like their Da, ever in his mind as Jordie's voice became ever similar.
He quashes that ache. A high pitched voice screams in terror as he adjusts his gloves.
"Pipe down," he mutters. "You'll just wind up sounding like me."
