    Toby did not leave L’Manburg because he could not. Not in the way a man in shackles is bound to keep still, but rather the way a ghost lingers at the site of its own grave. And so Toby stayed. He stayed in L’Manburg long after the demise of the Schlatt administration, which he had once cared for so delicately as vice president. Not because he believed L’Manburg could be fixed. Nor because he thought he was the one to fix it. Toby stayed because the hill remained, and the boulder awaited him. And so he pushed it.
