You Have Watched Too Many Movies, Nile:

Summary:

Once in a while, there is a debate about who should get their target.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

They all saw their target disappear into an old house before they looked at each other.

Joe: "Who wants to get the idiot?"

Nile: "Not me."

Joe: "Why?"

Nile: "I know what happens to the pretty girl the moment when she enters a scary house, so no thanks."

Joe: "I don't follow."

Nile: "In horror movies, the first one who often dies is the pretty girl because she somehow has been separated from the group, so find someone else to go into the scary house first."

Joe: "You have watched too many movies, Nile. And nothing will happen to you because it is still daylight."

Nile: "I am pretty sure some bloke also said that in a horror movie."

Joe and Nile noticed Nicky walking towards the house.

Nile: "Did you know, Joe, that the pretty blonde is often also one of the first to be killed when he or she enters a scary house in a horror movie?"

Joe quickly caught up with Nicky.

Nicky: "I got this. No need to worry."

Joe: "I know you have, but let me do it, Love. No need for you to get messy before our date tonight."

Joe kissed Nicky before going inside.

Nicky: "Has your unwillingness to go inside the house something to do with your fear of spiders, Nile?"

Nile: "I have no idea what you are talking about. And it isn't my fault Joe wanted to do it."

They looked at the house when a noise could be heard, followed by swearing in Arabic.

Nile: "What is Joe saying?"

Nicky: "You are too young to use that kind of language, so ask again in five hundred years' time."

Nile rolled her eyes in the way only a little sister could do. It didn't take long before Joe came out with their target.

Joe: "Here, take him."

Joe pushed the target over to Nicky, who handcuffed the target while Joe started to dust his leather jacket off.

Nile: "What happened?"

Joe: "That bloody idiot threw stuff after me but didn't pay any attention to what he was throwing, so he threw a big fat rat after me. Did I mention the rat was still alive?"

Nile bit her lips to prevent her from laughing.

Nile: "Poor little you."

Joe: "Thanks. The next time it is your turn, got it?"

Nile: "Yes, yes, shall we get going?"

They walked back to the car with their target, who was placed in the backseat with Nile.

Joe: "I need a long hot shower before we go out on our date tonight. And I want to burn my clothes."

Nicky: "You will be sorry later if you burn the leather jacket you stole from Bob Dylan."

Joe: "I borrowed it, Nicky. And he said I could do it."

Nicky smiled before he got into the front seat while Joe took the driver's side.

Nicky: "You do know that if you borrow something, you are supposed to return it later."

Joe: "I will if our paths cross one day again. I promise."

Nicky looked at Nile.

Nicky: "I will tell you what that was about later."

Nile: "Can't wait. Let us hand over this idiot so we can collect the bounty."

Three hours later, they were back at the safe house with the bounty.

Nicky: "55% to you, Nile and the rest to us."

Nicky handed Nile the agreed amount of money.

Nile: "Thanks, but I still say we should have split the bounty in two."

Nicky: "You did most of the work in finding our target, so it is only fair that you get most of the money."

Nicky's smile told Nile he didn't want to talk more about money.

Nicky: "Instead, let me tell you about that time Joe stole the leather jacket he is always wearing from Bob Dylan."

Nile: "You are joking."

Nicky: "I am not joking. So, do you want to hear that story?"

Joe came into the kitchen while drying his curls.

Joe: "Before Nicky tells you the story, you should know I only borrowed that jacket."

Nicky: "Let Nile be the judge of that. So, do you still want to hear the story?"

Nile: "Yes, please."

Nicky leaned back in the chair.

Nicky: "It all began with two men arriving only a week apart back in 1961 in Greenwich Village, New York..."
