Happy Birthday to the Pancake Boy

Summary:

Akechi's birthday is closing in and Akira and the gang are planning something special, but what could it ever be about? Akechi's the ace detective after all, so will he manage to find out the truth in time?

Notes:

Logan, my dear friend, I have known you since like 2017 and ever since, we have been inseperable. Words cannot describe how lucky I am to have you as a dear friend. We bicker, we laugh and sometimes cry together. That's what friends are for.

Last year and today, I felt terrible for forgetting your birthday. Last year, it took me a bloody week to realize your birthday has passed and today, I was reminded at the evening and I feel ever so terrible for forgetting again. It was never my intention to forget, I have honestly started to forget things lately and it's an awful feeling.

Also, you did wonder back then why I asked you about your favorite ships, but I never told you. Here's the reason why. Since you are always so kind to write fics as a birthday gift for me (and sometimes a Xmas gift), I am returning the favour. Please, enjoy this.

Work Text:

Akechi was an intelligent boy, he had remarkable grades at school and he exceed as an aiding detective for the police. If you count away the fact he was a bastard son of a damned politician, he had a pretty decent life to say the least. And the recent year, he had gathered some unexpected friends during the investigation of "Phantom Thieves" and one of them happened to be Akira, he was your typical teenager and blent well in the crowds. Black messy hair and didn't have much of a personality, but...it did pull Akechi in, it was something he found charming.

Summer was closing in and so was the summer break as well for students. Not only that, but a birthday as well for the ace detective. Akechi had mentioned it at one point, but he didn't expect his friends to do something about it. He would think they would greet him with a "happy birthday" and move on with their day. But he had noticed recently they had been...secretive. They were hush-hush and whenever Ryuji opened his mouth to speak, Ann would nudge him in the ribs which would shut his mouth quickly. What was even going on? Knowing Akechi was the ace detective, why couldn't he solve the secret? He had to figure out why they were all so quiet.

It was another sunny day at the Leblanc Café and Akechi enjoyed his typical cup of coffee, it was blended well, with rich beans hailing from Africa and when you had it just black as it was meant to be, you could feel the richness of the taste and how filling it was. He sipped on his cup and was reading the newspaper to pass the time, as usual, Akira was cleaning in the back and was currently wiping a plate clean, Akechi sometimes glanced at him with an assessing gaze to see what he was up to and put the cup down on the plate. "Akira...What are you and the others planning?" He suddenly asked, tilting his head as he gave him a slight smile and crossed his arms over his chest. The ravenette perked his head up from the sink and blinked before putting the plate and let it dry. "I don't know what you are talking about."

"Surely you must, you guys had been awfully quiet and each time I walk into the room, you scatter and hide whatever you had in front of you. I just couldn't help but to wonder." He pointed out as he was sipping from the cup again and hummed. "It is about my birthday, right? I had mentioned it before and all of you had been quiet afterwards." He said and turned to look at Akira, pointing at him. "Just tell me. What are you hiding?" He demanded, Akira blinked before he walked over and actually dared to peck on his cheek and stepped back, giving him a secretive smile. "That's a secret, Akechi." With that, he turned on his heels and went up to the counter when a guest arrived, Akechi was a blushing mess and grumbled before he hid himself behind the newspaper again and stared at the texts. Curse that damn teenager, he could not fool Akechi! He was the ace detective after all!

Skipping over to the evening, Akechi was strolling down the Akihibara streets and scrolled on his phone, yet again, the guys had been silent around him and it began to bug the crap out of him. Why was it so hard to tell him what was going on? Seriously? Damn, these people...Akechi sighed softly before he put his phone into his bag and continued to walk, even Sae was silent about the whole ordeal. No matter, Akechi shouldn't really care about stuff like that, the day would pass and it would be alright. He was used by that. He continued to walk the streets and checked the address again that was sent to him by Akira, he soon turned his head to look at the sign and raised his eyebrows. So he was meant to be here, huh? It was just the Leblanc Café as usual, what could ever be so special about it? But when he opened the door...

"SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Were the words that came out of people's mouths when he entered the building and the ace detective for once looked stunned, that was the whole thing they were planning? The teenager stood by the door still and Akira took this as an opportunity to walk over and kissed on his cheek with a faint smile. "Happy birthday, Akechi~ We were planning your birthday and we just wanted to surprise, wouldn't be any fun if we spoilt it earlier." He said, taking his hand and led him over to the table where they had decorated the booth. In the corner, there were gifts and on the side, it was a huge glass of lemonade with a funny shaped straw and a mini-parasol. Akechi was honestly very flustered to get pampered like this, he always celebrated his birthday alone or with Sae, but with a bunch of friends? It had never happened.

"Happy birthday, dude! Sorry for keeping hush-hush, but we wanted to surprise ya!" Ryuji said with a bright grin after the detective sat down and looked at Sojiro. "Boss, bring over the plate!" He called over which made the elder man to chuckle and rolled his eyes. "Coming right up." He said before he headed over to the booth and actually placed down a plate of fluffy American pancakes. Pancakes...Why did Akechi ever open his damned mouth and say pancakes?! But he wouldn't lie, the pancakes looked really delicious with the maple syrup running on the sides and the berries on top...Akechi bit himself in the cheek to calm down and inhaled softly. The gang had prepared him for this, he should be thankful...

"Oh, here you go." Akira gave him a wrapped gift and placed it on the table. "I figured it would fit you quite well." He later added and sat next to the detective who inspected the small package and began to unwrap it, his eyes soon went a bit wide and turned to look at Akira and then at the gift again. It was an expensive leather notebook with a luxurious-looking pen, this must have been quite expensive! He was honestly loss for words and his face began to get all red. Akira knew the gift was a success and sneaked a kiss upon his lips before retracting and hummed. "Happy birthday, Akechi." He said softly, making the detective melt and his face all redder than before. "Curse you..." He grumbled before eating the pancakes and hummed in delight, now those were delicious pancakes...

After the party went by, Akechi and Akira were upstairs in the attic, the detective quietly studied the book still and looked at Akira. "Why did you get me this, Akira?" He asked, the boy turned to face him and hummed in thought before he looked away. "I mean, if I have a notebook to write stuff down that's important to me, I figured, why not the same for you?" He said before sitting next to him and wrapped his arm around him, Akechi furrowed his eyebrows before he swiftly pinned him down against the bed and looked into his eyes. "Then...maybe I should start writing something tomorrow about the moment we are going to have now?" He said, his face flushed in beet-red and the student smiled at him. "I surely wouldn't have anything against it." Akechi huffed at that before he leaned down to Akira's face, the ravenette wrapped his arms around him and smiled. "I wish you a happy birthday, the ace detective~" He whispered and kissed him softly. That night, Akira made sure he cherished Akechi and treated him like the king he was~
