Chapter Text
Shouta turns on a bed, scrunching his nose in a sign of irritation and finally taking his sleeping mask off. Looking at Shouta’s face for the first time any person would assume that the man hasn't slept in years, which was not true in the slightest. Shouta, actually, prided himself in falling asleep anywhere, at any time and any moment of the day. He liked the feeling of sleepiness shutting his eyes down and letting him rest, an expensive sleeping mask producing warmth and adding a light pressure to his constant eye bags. Sometimes, when he didn’t have his mask Hizashi’s warm hand would rest above his nose bridge, perfectly covering his eyes and grounding Shouta with a soft touch all together.
All in all, Shouta loved sleeping and cherished it dearly, getting irritated when he couldn’t fall asleep right ahead. The reason he couldn’t fall asleep was usually the same and today wasn’t the exception. Hizashi wasn’t home, even though he was supposed to be, remembering at the last minute that he forgot something at the agency. It was irritating, Shouta was expecting to come home together and go straight to bed. Instead he came home alone and went to bed alone. He was also a bit irritated that Hizashi rarely forgot anything and he forgot something on one of the weekdays that they always spent together.
Hizashi Yamada
>> Be back in 15 minutes!
Shouta sighed, looking at the phone on the bedside table and not moving a muscle to pick it up, not willing to give up the warmth he kept under the blanket. He closed his eyes, turning in their bed for another five minutes before giving up and moving to the kitchen, boiling water for a cup of tea. He puts his head down on the table when his mug is empty, looking at the stupid cat meme printed on the side of his mug, lifting his gaze to the clock to see numbers change from 11:59 to 12:00.
It’s midnight and he hears the door open. He could move his head and look straight into the hallway, but he is feeling petty and he waits for Hizashi’s steps to come closer, long fingers moving his mug. Shouta blinks and next he knows there is a small bouquet of tiny white flowers in front of his face. He opens his mouth to speak, but Hizashi sits down on the opposite side of the table and lays his face behind the bouquet, cheek pressed to the table, looking at Shouta with a small smile through flowers.
“It’s baby’s breath.”
“Eh?”
Hizashi laughs and lifts up the flowers so Shouta can see his face properly, light blush covering his cheeks, pale freckles so close he could count them.
“The flowers. They are meant to symbolise the everlasting love.” Hizashi’s gaze moves to the side, his nose scrunching a bit and his lips forming a tight line just for a second. Shouta’s eyes burn, but he doesn’t want to blink for even a second, all irritation disappearing with the sound of Hizashi’s voice. “I wish I could’ve gotten something better for you, but..money is kinda tight, you know that.” Hizashi sighs and his beautiful red eyes come back to look into Shouta’s. There are dark shadows under his boyfriend’s eyes, the scar on the bridge of his nose running down his cheek in a thin white line and Shouta’ve never seen a better view in his life. “Happy first Valentine’s day, Shou.”
“I love you.”
“Huh? Wait, I mean, yes! I love you too!” Hizashi blinks and his smile returns, a little dimple showing on his right cheek. “It’s bed time tho. Want me to carry you to bed?”
Shouta huffs a laugh at that and Hizashi lifts his eyebrow. He gets up to go around the table and with Shouta’s protesting grumbles lifts him up in a fireman's carry. Which is ridiculous, not comfortable and not romantic at all, but Shouta laughs when he is dumped on their bed and tucked in. Ten minutes that Hizashi takes to get ready for bed don’t last as long, irritation gone and his eyelids pleasantly heavy. He feels Hizashi slide into the bed, his breath minty with a toothpaste when he gently kisses the bridge of Shouta’s nose before sliding his sleeping mask on. He can feel Hizashi’s legs intertwining with his, a grounding palm resting on top of his chest and Shouta’s mind finally goes to rest.
