Work Text:
The sounds of leaves and twigs snapping under the force of her boots fills Zari's ears. Accompanied by the weight against her chest from the firewood she's carrying. She watches as Amaya turns towards the sound of her approaching. A smile lighting up her face.
“Those look perfect. I've set up the tent and our cots already.”
As Amaya gets up to take the wood from her arms. Zari gets a glimpse of the finished tent. It is a really old one, simply held together with cloth and sticks. She can already feel her skin ache at the thought of the cold air nipping at it during the chilly hours later tonight.
It wasn't that she DIDN'T want to be out here. Well she actually really doesn't but it's a small break away from the chaos that has been ramping up lately with the Legends, the Darhks and the aTime Bureau. Sara had sent them on this mission, just a place to hide out in time for a little while and in the meantime everyone else looks for the rest of the totems. There was definitely a wink thrown in there when Sara told them about this that Zari chose to ignore.
But it's also a chance to spend more time with Amaya who seems happier than she has been lately being out here in the wilderness. Away from her future, away from the looming of her having to lea….
Though Zari had been used to this before, the “camping” aspect. But It was less a fun trip and more of constantly moving in order to survive. So who can really blame her for the tight grip of unease that grasps at her stomach like a powerful hand.
Amaya turns towards her with a smile she's only seen once before, an almost mischievous one. Pulling something from the bag where they were keeping their food.
“Now before we left Ray and Nate kept mentioning how these s'mores things are staples of any camping trip.” Amaya trips over the word s'more trying to grasp the strange new word dancing on her tongue.
Zari had heard of smores before, a while ago on TV and always wanted to try one. Unfortunately she did not get the chance to before Argus took over and banned almost everything. Newfound Excitement rushes through her. And reluctantly hope? That maybe she can make new, better memories in the outdoors.
“I love you.”
Amaya simply laughs brightly and pretty at the words.
“Help me start the fire and we can figure out how to make these.” Amaya replies, settling herself in front of the area that's going to be the firepit.
“I love you.”
