Lena and Emily were cuddling on the couch. Lena’s arm wrapped around Emily, pulling her in close, and Emily just nuzzled up to her. They were content just existing in each other presence.
“Hey, Em?” Lena said softly, brushing her hair.
“Yeah?” Emily mumbled, her voice sleepy and content as she turned her face toward Lena’s hand that was brushing her hair. “Is everything alright?”
“Yes, everything is alright… I just wanted to ask you: do you know how much I love you?” Lena said, smiling widely. “Because I love you a whole bunch. Like a lot. More than I could ever conceptualize.”
Emily’s eyes fluttered open, a sleepy smile tugging at the corners of her lips. She lazily tilted her head up to look at Lena, her eyes soft and filled with affection. “Hmm,” she murmured, her voice thick with the haze of sleep. “I think I know. You show me every day.”
“I just want to make sure you know because I love you so much!” Lena said, her voice reflecting the wide smile on her face. “You are my amazing girlfriend… and I love you so much.”
“I love you too, Lena. I’m not going anywhere, not ever,” Emily said, looking Lena in the eyes. “I mean it. I want to spend the rest of my life with you if I can.”
“You can ,” Lena whispered. “You absolutely can. I want the same thing. Forever. Just us. That sounds perfect… just the two of us together with only each other to worry about… god, that sounds bloody perfect.”
“I love you so much; nothing will ever change how much I love you,” Emily said, nuzzling herself back into Lena’s chest. “I am so happy to be with you. Nothing will change my feelings about you. Which are nothing but love and adoration.”
“I feel the same, Em,” Lena said softly, her voice filled with warmth. “I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. You’re my heart. You’re my everything. And I’m so lucky that you love me too.”
“Lena and Emily, together forever. Until the end,” Lena said, sure of herself. “I love you, and you love me. What more could I ask for?”
“There’s nothing more I could ask for either,” Emily whispered, “Just you. Just us.”
Lena kissed the top of Emily’s head, her smile growing even more tender. “Forever,” she repeated, the word almost feeling like a promise they’d both made, etched into the very core of their beings. “That’s all we need. Just you and me forever and ever, never leaving each other and just…”
Emily nodded, letting out a contented sigh as she nestled even closer, her body melting into Lena’s. “I can't imagine a better life than this. With you, by my side, always. It’s everything I could have ever wanted. Just… amazing.”
“Mhm,” Lena nodded, going back to cuddling Emily on the couch.
With that, they sat together in their living room, just together. And together, they just were — content, happy, and forever.
