Summary:

Pepsi or Coke?

Chapter 1: Monika

Chapter Text

"Monika!" Sayori sing-songed her friend's name. "What do you want from the vending machine?"

Monika turned to look in Sayori's direction at the door of the clubroom, the other two members staying undisturbed, quite used to the sweet-sounding bustling noise of Sayori doing just about anything.

"I'll just have a Pepsi." Monika smiles warmly. "Thank you, Sayori."

"Okay!" Sayori said, exaggeratedly exiting the classroom and heading down the hallway and towards the bottom of the stairwell, the familiar location of the machine a well-trodden path. What greeted her, though, was an unfamiliar sight.

Two vending machines. The same, dependable PepsiCo product machine, and, next to it, something beautiful to Sayori's eyes; a machine filled to the brim with Coca-Cola products, including the namesake soda itself.

Sayori's favorite soda, mind you. Sayori could fly, she thought, if it meant she'd get a Coca-Cola. And, of course, she never remembers to buy any at the store as it is. So, to Sayori, this was surely a gift from the heavens.

Monika, though, had specifically asked for a Pepsi. So, Sayori figures, she could grab a Coke for her and a Pepsi for Monika. That was, until something made her change her mind. There, through the display, she could see a tagline on the bottle of Coke right in the center, perfectly aligned and facing her, a call to action had she ever seen one.

Right in the center of the vending machine, was a Coca-Cola bottle that read;

Share a Coke with Monika

And that command, from the higher powers that be, would not be failed.

Monika looked up as she heard the door slide open, faced with a Sayori smiling triumphantly.

And in her hand, are two bottles of Coca-Cola.

"Where did the others go?" Sayori asked, innocently tilting her head to the side.

"They went home. Club ended while you were out..." Monika trailed off, having met Sayori's gaze and now moving her head back down to meet the offending drinks. "Were they out of Pepsi?" Monika offers with a forced smile and a dry chuckle.

Sayori beams. "I got something better! Look!" At this, Monika leans forward, reading the label that was facing her.

"Share a Coke with... Oh." Monika leans back to her normal sitting position. "That's quite sweet, Sayori. But..."

Sayori tilts her head again, a slightly more concerned look on her face

At this point, Monika has beads of sweat forming at this. If she could communicate with her body in some way, she'd surely tell it she's overreacting.

"I only like Pepsi."

Sayori's face was aghast.
