Work Text:
Joe noticed Nile and Booker standing in the doorway, watching everything he was doing.
Nile: "What do you think your Hubby…"
Joe resisted rolling his eyes. He was still trying to get used to Nile calling Nicky "Hubby."
Nile: "Would say if he saw how you were cooking your eggs this morning?"
Joe: "I am using what I have at my disposal."
Nile: "Are you sure of that?"
Joe: "It isn't my fault that we are lying low in a safe house that doesn't have a frying pan, so I am using this iron to make an omelette until I can buy a new frying pan. It is called being creative."
Nile: "Aha, this I have to see."
Nile and Booker watched Joe cook the omelette with some great difficulty on the iron. When Joe dropped the omelette on the floor, Nile and Booker burst out in laughter, but a glare from Joe made them disappear in a hurry.
Nile: "Let me guess: you hid the frying pan the moment we got here?"
Booker: "Yes, being stuck here without much to do, I decided to use the time to prank Joe."
The safe house didn't have WiFi or TV.
Nile: "Good one, Book."
Booker: "Thanks."
Nile: "What is your plan when Joe finds out what you have done?"
Booker: "We are only staying here for one more night, so I thought I would gift wrap the frying pan and leave it on Joe's bed before I leave this place. And hopefully, before Joe connects the dots, I will be long gone."
They sat down on the sofa.
Booker: "Can I count on you not telling Joe anything?"
Nile stuck her foot up in Booker's face.
Nile: "Only if you paint my toenails."
Booker: "Deal. Hand me the nail polish."
Nile did it.
Booker: "Purple with glitter. Does that mean you are going dancing anytime soon?"
Nile: "That is the plan. You are welcome to join me."
Booker: "Not this time. I plan to hit the open roads as soon as I can for a long while."
Nile: "Just remember to check in with me once in a while."
Booker: "I promise."
They both looked towards the kitchen when they heard Joe swear again.
Nile: "Something tells me he dropped another omelette."
Booker: "And something tells me you are going to tell Nicky about how Joe made an omelette while he was gone."
Nile: "That was the plan. And it isn't really any different from what you did with the frying pan."
Booker: "True. It is nice finally meeting someone who loves to prank others."
They both laughed, but they also both knew that someday soon, one of them would prank the other one. And they didn't mind it at all because, at the end of the day, they would still be friends.
