Chapter Text
'This is officially the worst day of my life' Dayanara thought as she sat in the FBI interrogation room, her leg bouncing up and down anxiously. 'Scratch that, second worst day of my life.' Dayanara sighed, throwing her head back boredly as she levelled the two way mirror with an unimpressed look.
"Yo! You planning on leaving me in here all day?" She yelled in the direction of the two way mirror, god she hopes there's people behind that, it'd be embarrassing if there isn't.
Of course there's no answer, why would there be? Not like she wasn't just arrested in her own home two hours ago and then unceremoniously dumped into this shitty interrogation room, no of course she wasn't that'd be silly (please note her sarcasm). She wasn't even entirely sure what she was being charged with, sure she had a few vague ideas but she wasn't going to share them with anyone, she's not an idiot.
Maybe her annoying as fuck neighbour called the cops on her again, citing some bullshit reason thats probally not even true, or maybe it's about the weed she's been buying from Marcus down the street, or maybe it's about that time she threw a brick through that bitch Becky's window (the bitch deserved it ok!), or maybe it's about that incident. Ok so she's not entirely sure why she's here, who can blame her ok? she's not some loser bitch that's got nothing going on in her life, she's a busy gal.
On that note she really does need to get out of here, preferably right now, she's got plans today. She wanted to try out that new internet cafe a block away from her shitty one bedroom apartment and she supposes she needs to pick up some groceries considering her cupboards are bare and last time that Grandma in the apartment across from her found out that she was living off take out, she kept bringing round shitty casseroles, and while she appreciated the thought she didn't really want to get that sweet old lady wrapped up in her bullshit just because she was too lazy to go down to the supermarkets to pick up some essentials. Oh and of course she needed to pay that asshole, William a visit because despite her previous warnings that dick still hasn't paid her, her money and a little birdy told her that he recently just one big at that underground casino, so she knows he has the money.
Just as she was about to yell out again the door opened.
"Finally" she huffs, rolling her eyes as she tilts her head to view the person that's just entered the room, "took you long enough, i was beginning to think you lot had forgot about me, glad to know you were just being dicks instead."
"I apologise for the wait, there were some more important matters i needed to attend to first" The man that had just entered said monotonously as he sat across from her. Dayanara raises an eyebrow at him, leveling him with a scrutinising stare. "My name is Agent Hotchner, and i'll be taking point on your case" Agent Hotchner says, placing a thick file down on the metal table in front of him.
"My case?" Dayanara asks skeptically, leaning back in her metal chair, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Your name is Dayanara Trovi, age 17, your parents died when you were 8 and you bounced around foster homes until you were 14 and were adopted by one Ethan Brune. On October 3rd 2023 last year you applied for emancipation and won your case on December 12th 2023. After you were emancipated you quickly left your adopted fathers home and bounced around for a while before settling down here in Virgina and on June 8th last week you hacked the FBI's servers." Agent Hotchner explains neutrally, leaving no room for argument.
Dayanara winces as he talks at her, yeah she did do that didn't she. She got a shitty phone call from Dimitri, telling her that Ms. Linda had just been found not guilty, which was utter bullshit in her personal opinion. So she called up Marcus and chucked him some petty cash for some of that sweet green, just to clear her mind a bit. But of course a high Dayanara was a stupid, reckless Dayanara and for some reason she decided that hacking the FBI was a good idea whilst high off her mind, maybe if she was sober and had a clearer mind she wouldn't have made the stupid mistakes that inevitably led to her being caught. Once she had sobered up she had decided to push it out of her mind and pointedly made an effort to ignore it and not so affectionately decided to name it 'that incident'.
"Now, luckily for you, your attack caused no real damage and the FBI has decided not to prosecute on the condition that you work off what would be your sentence here at the FBI" Agent Hotchner speaks up again after a minute of Dayanaras telling silence.
"uh-huh, yeah, and what if i don't" Dayanara says defensively, crossing her arms over her chest.
"If you don't accept this deal, you'll leave the FBI no choice but to prosecute you to the full extent of the law and I can guarantee that you will be prosecuted as an adult, not a juvenile" Agent Hotchner's voice carries across the room.
Dayanara looks away before quickly flicking her eyes back to Agent Hotchner, "And if i do accept this... 'deal'"
"If you do decide to accept this deal then you'll be released on the condition you come to work for the FBI, you'll be treated as any other employee, you'll be paid a fair wage, have sick and vacation days and all the other benefits of other federal employees" Agent Hotchner explains, his tone gives away nothing of what he's feeling, nor his expression.
The offer leaves Dayanara feeling uneasy. On one hand she'd get a cushy job rather than going to jail for her stupid, high, decision but on the other hand she'd be getting a shitty federal government job effectively stomping on all she's worked for this past year. goodbye flying under the radar, hello big red beam pointing to where she is and what she does. God how was she supposed to avoid her if she accepted this offer, she could find her easily if she worked for the FBI. She wanted to leave her past behind, how can she do that if her past manages to hunt her down. But then again jail.
Dayanara sighs loudly, throwing her head back before suddenly sitting up straight and staring Agent Hotchner straight in the eyes. "Ok, agent Hotchner, I accept."
"You'll need to sign this first, Ms. Trovi" Agent Hotchner slid a contract across the table and handed Dayanara a pen.
Dayanara rolls her eyes but accepts the pen nonetheless, she flicks through the contract half heartedly before signing her name on the dotted line.
"There" she says as she slides both the pen and the contract back across the metal table and towards Agent Hotchner.
Agent Hotchner looks through the contract for a moment before standing up and holding his hand out towards Dayanara, "You'll be working with our technical analyst, Penelope Garcia. Welcome to the team, Ms. Trovi."
Dayanara stands up as well, following Agent Hotchner's lead. She stares at his hand for a moment before accepting his handshake, shaking his hand as he shakes hers.
"I'd say it's a pleasure but we both know I'd be lying." she says with false sweetness dripping from her voice.
Agent Hotchner lets go of her hand, "I'll see you tomorrow, Ms. Trovi, 9 am sharp."
Dayanara makes a point of wiping her hand on her trousers after Agent Hotchner lets go of it.
"Yeah, yeah, am I free to go now?" she says, crossing her arms over her chest and raising an eyebrow at him.
"You may go" Agent Hotchener agrees easily, "I'll have Agent Greenwal escort you out"
"Great, awesome" Daynara says sarcastically, rolling her eyes.

Dayanara sighs as she pushes her front door open, making sure to lock it behind her. She kicks her shoes off at the door (she's not an animal), flickering her light switch on as she does so. She had gotten out of that interview room a lot later than she would have liked, she doesn't have any time to track down that dick William, try out that new internet cafe or pick up groceries. Well she supposes she has time for the last one but she didn't really feel like that now, blame those stupid agents that arrested her. She was feeling super duper productive today and now she feels all burnt out, it's not her fault she was arrested (it is), she can't be blamed for hacking the FBI (she can), if anyone is to blame it's Marcus for selling her that stupid weed in the first place (he's not).
Dayanara groans loudly as she flops onto her shitty torn sofa (she had stolen it from someone's front yard so she really shouldn't complain about it's condition, it was free after all).
"Fuuuuuuuuck" Dayanara groans out, dragging a hand down her face, what the hell was she supposed to do now? She had just gotten a fucking job at the FBI, albeit unwillingly, that was so not in her 10 step (and counting) plan to succsess (what succsess she's unsure, but whose to judge).
Dayanara fumbles with the TV remote, flicking through the channels mindlessly before deciding on some shark documentary. She’s only half heartedly concentrating on it when there's a knock at her door. She groans thinking about ignoring it for a moment before the knock happens again. God how was she supposed to wallow in self pity and learn about… she squints at the TV, tiger sharks, if there's someone at her door? She rolls off her dreadful sofa (rather elegantly in her personal opinion, the only one that matters in her book.)
She stands up off of the floor wandering over to her front door, she fishes her keys out of the bowl next to her front door. She goes through the painstakingly slow (really it’s only like 4 seconds but she's a dramatic bitch, sue her) process of unlocking the front door. Before she opens the door though she makes sure to rest her hand on top of a carefully concealed knife hidden on the coat rack next to her door.
“Mrs. Grant!?” Dayanara exclaims in surprise, letting her hand fall off of the concealed knife on the shelf.
Mrs. Grant was the sweet old lady that lives in the apartment across from her, and she seriously doubts she means her any serious harm, even if she did, Dayanara's confident she could kick her arse without a knife to give her the upper hand. She usually only comes to check up on her on Sundays, the day of the good lord as Mrs. Grant often tells her when she asks why, the explanation may not make much sense to her but Mrs. Grant seems to think it’s a perfectly understandable reason as to why.
“Hello dear, oh i’m so sorry for dropping by so unexpectedly but when i saw you were home i thought i’d come by to check up on you, after all that dreadful commotion this morning” Mrs. Grant says sweetly, squinting up at Dayanara as she does, as if to check her over.
Ah right, Dayanara forgot that everyone in the building probably heard or saw about what happened this morning.
“Ah, right, I’m so sorry about that Mrs. Grant, it won’t happen again” Dayanara apologises gently, she knows that the whole thing was really her fault (as much as she’d like to blame the whole thing on Marcus for selling her that weed in the first place).
“Oh don’t be sorry deary, I too was young once. Ah in my youth i was always getting into trouble with the police, joined in on quite a few protests i did.” Mrs. Grant says as she reminisces about her ‘glory days’. “But that hardly matters right now my dear, I just thought I'd pop on by to see if you were alright now that you’re home, getting arrested is never a fun thing”
“Oh… I’m alright Mrs. Grant, it was just a misunderstanding” Dayanara says softly, she didn’t think sweet old Mrs. Grant would really care about the details.
“It always is my dear” Mrs. Grant shakes her head disapprovingly, “damn pigs” she mutters under her breath.
“Mrs. Grant!” Dayanara lets out a shocked laugh.
“Well then deary, if you’re sure you’re alright, I’ll get out of your hair now” Mrs. Grant bids her farewell in that sweet elderly manner she always seems to carry herself in.
Dayanara sighs as she closes and locks the door, Mrs. Grant means well but sometimes she just doesn’t want to hold a conversation with her. Don’t get her wrong she was a real sweet old lady and Dayanara liked her but when she was upset or just feeling… blank then she just didn’t want to talk to anyone, especially not someone as sweet as Mrs. Grant. Whatever, it hardly matters now, it's over and done with.
Dayanara walks over to her kitchen scouring her cupboard for something to eat. Nope, nope, nope, nope, no- aha! There! A box of crackers she had brought as a ‘healthy snack’ then promptly forgot about in favour of the chocolate chip cookies Mrs. Grant brings round every Sunday. Dayanara makes her way back over to her shitty couch and flops down on it with her newly acquired box of crackers.
Hey maybe she can buy herself a new one with her sick new pay check, Dayanara thinks to herself as she kicks her feet up onto the equally as shitty coffee table (she ‘borrowed’ it from Marcus, they both know he’s not getting it back any time soon.) Dayanara starts munching on the stale crackers as she re-focuses her attention to the previously abandoned shark documentary. God she’s gonna have to get up early in the morning if she’s going to be on time tomorrow (not really but anything before 10 is early in her books). Usually she wouldn’t give two rats tails about being late but she doesn’t want to risk being late and getting thrown into jail cause the FBI thought she bailed on their deal.
She sighs, tossing the box of crackers onto the coffee table and moving her feet off of it and onto the couch so she’s lying down. She pulls the old throw blanket she had found in a charity bin off of the back of the sofa and pulls it over herself. She turns the lamp off and makes sure she’s all comfortable on the couch before turning her attention back to the sharks on the TV. She’ll go shopping tomorrow she thinks to herself as she slowly succumbs to the claws of sleep. Tomorrow’s gonna suck.
