    The smoke in the air burned his throat as he climbed, making his way up with the end of the hose looped around his arm. Buck was not nervous, even when the sensation of sweat dripping down his face reminded him of the rain, and when a distant explosion from within the warehouse they were working on reminded him of thunder. Reaching the top, he caught his breath and prepared to hose down a row of windows crackling with flame.
