“My name’s Chakotay,” he continued.
“Okay,” she said and wondered if she should take him to sickbay.
“I serve as a first officer onboard a starship.”
“Do you now?” she asked.
“I’m delighted to meet a local,” he said. “What’s your name?”
She watched his eyes dance across her face and then looking into her own, saw that dimple appear that always, always softened things, and so, instead of getting up, telling him to stop being silly, to finish his hair pasta and she’ll see him in the morning, she said: “Nice to meet you, Chakotay. My name is Kathryn.”
