    “This is the one you’ll be piloting.” It had just flown in today, he knows. It just got here, all the way from the United States, looking unscathed, if a little dirty, after the accident at that facility.

    Toji has seen them up close, the Evas. He knows what they look like, and he’s always thought they were really cool, not exactly super scary, but this one… something about it sends a chill down his spine, strikes fear, the likes of which he’s never really felt before, into his very bones. Maybe it’s because this isn’t like the others, where all he’d had to do was watch. He’ll be inside this one, controlling it. It’s a machine that will be fused to his nerves, his brain. His very soul.

    “Cool,” he manages, sounding distant and choked to his own ears. The great, hulking monster of a robot seems to stare him down, as if urging him to back out. He’s never wanted anything to do with this whole operation, after what happened to his sister. But that incident is what brings him here today, really. His sister. He just wants to help her.
