Work Text:

I. The Escape

(Severina’s POV)

The castle was quiet at this hour, and for once, Severina welcomed the silence.

She moved swiftly through the shadows, her cloak light over her shoulders. She had spent years walking these halls with her head down, trying to survive. Tonight, she walked with purpose.

Evan was waiting at the edge of the Forbidden Forest, his wand held loosely in one hand, his face unreadable.

"Ready?" he murmured.

Severina glanced back one last time at the castle—at the stone walls, the flickering torches, the windows behind which Lily slept, unaware.

She lifted her wand and sent a single slip of parchment away into the night. A whisper of a message, left for the only person who might need it.

Then she reached for the small, unremarkable coin in Evan’s palm. The moment her fingers brushed it, the world twisted—Hogwarts disappeared, and with it, the life she had left behind.

II. The Rumors

(Lily’s POV)

By the time Lily reached the Great Hall, the news had already spread.

"Death Eaters took them."

"They were killed in the night."

"They ran to join Him."

Lily sat down slowly, her stomach turning. There was no evidence of anything—no signs of a struggle, no triumphant announcement from the Dark Lord. Just… silence.

A folded note sat on her plate.

She recognized the handwriting immediately. With trembling fingers, she unfolded it.

"You were right. I deserved better."

The words blurred as she stared at them.

Severina Snape was gone. And Lily might never know why.

III. The Theories

(The Marauders’ POV)

"Bet you anything they ran to Voldemort," James muttered, his jaw tight.

"Maybe," Sirius said, but he didn’t sound convinced.

Remus glanced at him. "It doesn’t make sense. If they joined, why hasn’t anyone heard from them? The Dark Lord isn’t exactly subtle."

Sirius tapped his fingers against the table. He had spent enough time around Evan Rosier to know the boy thrived on mind games.

Severina had always been harder to read, but she was brilliant. If she wanted to disappear, she would have found a way.

James exhaled sharply. "Whatever. If Snape wants to play traitor, good riddance."

Sirius wasn’t so sure.

IV. The Warning

(Regulus’ POV)

Regulus had learned long ago to hide his reactions. To listen.

Slytherin House was seething—Bellatrix raged about betrayal, Barty Crouch Jr. whispered about revenge. But Regulus was silent.

He knew Evan better than most. Knew that Severina was not a follower, but a strategist. They hadn’t disappeared because they were weak.

They had disappeared because they had won.

That night, as he shook out his robes, something light drifted to the floor. A folded slip of parchment.

He opened it slowly. The handwriting was unmistakable.

"The lotus only blooms where the water is still. You’ll know when you’re ready."

Regulus stared at the words, his fingers tightening around the note.

Severina had left him a choice.

One day, he would understand what it meant.

V. Months Later

The Truth (Severina’s POV, Japan Countryside)

The air smelled of damp earth and cherry blossoms. Mist curled over the rice fields beyond their home, the early morning light painting the sky in soft shades of gold.

Severina sat on the engawa, the wooden veranda, her tea warm in her hands.

She had changed since Hogwarts. Her hair, once tied tightly back, now cascaded freely down her back. Her sharp features had softened, no longer drawn by stress or anger.

Evan stepped outside, his presence easy beside her. "You’re thinking about him again," he said.

Severina didn’t deny it. She traced the rim of her cup, gazing at the pond beyond their garden. A single lotus floated on the still water.

"Do you think he’ll figure it out?" Evan asked.

Severina closed her eyes. "I hope so."

And if he did—if Regulus Black one day left the war behind—he would find them here.

Waiting.
