You never bet with Tim and Lucy

Summary:

Penn and Ridley challenge Tim and Lucy to playing paintball. They make a bet with Tim and Lucy, which is one of the dumbest decisions they could make.

Work Text:

“What do you think the rookies want to talk to us about?” Tim gives Lucy a curious look while they wait for them.

“Who knows, but whatever it is can’t make up for the stunts they’ve pulled since they started.” They’re currently waiting at the food trucks for the rookies.

After a few minutes, Lucy sees them both walking their way. “It’s about time.” Tim grumbles and Lucy kicks his leg. He tenses but doesn’t say anything. She is trying not to laugh.

“It’s been a long day.” Lucy looks at them. “What do you want?”

Penn steps up. “We were thinking.”

“Wow, that’s a first. It must have hurt your head.” Tim mutters and doesn’t care if they hear him.

“We want to make a bet.” Ridley speaks next.

Tim eyes them and Lucy gives them a look. “You two want to bet with us? Are you sure about that?” Lucy isn’t sure where this is headed.

Ridley stays quiet while Penn starts to speak again. “Yes we are positive.”

“Okay so what’s the bet then?” Tim pipes in. He wants to go home and finish what he started with Lucy that morning before Grey called them in early.

“Well, we will play paintball. It’ll be us two versus you two.” Tim almost breaks into laughter because are they serious? Tim and Lucy are great partners in that, just like in everything else. “And if we win, we get short sleeves along with bragging rights.”

They had both passed the six month exam. Their scores weren’t where their TO’s wanted to see them, but they didn’t fail. “I think that’s doable.” Lucy can’t imagine they would lose to these two.

Ridley gulps while Penn answers. “Well, of course.”

“When?” Tim asks.

“Tomorrow. We have the day off. We can rent the entire place for an hour or two.”

Both TO’s think about it. “Deal.” Lucy tells them. “But when you two lose, we will pick your punishment. There will be no complaining either, got it?”

“Yes ma’am. See you tomorrow.” They both head out and then Tim brings Lucy home. What a fun way to find out that Lucy and him are engaged. He loves messing with the rookies.

Lucy curls into Tim after round three. “Tomorrow will be fun.”

Tim really didn’t want to spend his day off with the rookies. “I guess. I’d rather spend my day off with you naked in my arms.” She pats his chest. “But we need a good punishment.”

“Don’t worry baby. When we win, we will come home and celebrate in our own way. After being splattered with paintball, I may need help in the shower.” Tim rolls them over and growls as he makes his way down Lucy’s body once more. After, Lucy whispers their punishment into his ear and he grins.

Just before ten the next morning, they’re both dressed and waiting in the parking lot for Penn and Ridley. Tim has his arms crossed waiting for their rookies to show. “Sergeant.” Penn walks over.

“Boot.” He tells him and then sees Ridley walk over. “You two go get this paid for.” Lucy elbows him. “What? It’s their idea.”

“Don’t worry, we have it covered.” Penn tells them. “It’s just going to be us. Us versus you like I said yesterday. May the best team win.”

Lucy looks at the rookies. “It’ll be quite interesting. Good luck to you two.”

She gently pushes Tim and they head inside to get ready. Penn goes to make sure that all five rounds are covered and that it’ll be just them playing. They are feeling overly confident about the entire thing. “These two think they can beat us.” Tim murmurs.

“They won’t know what hit them. We will take the higher ground.” Tim and Lucy come up with a plan while the rookies get ready.

“We split up. That is going to work best.” Penn tells Ridley. “Paintball is different from being a cop. I really think we can win this.” Ridley isn’t as positive.

Tim and Lucy walk out to where the other two are waiting. “How many rounds are we playing?”

“I paid for five. Whoever wins the most, wins the game.” Tim doesn’t give anything away about how he feels or if he thinks he can win this game. “Sounds good. Let’s go.”

They all grab their paintball guns and then get ready to start. The first round lasts only two minutes before Tim finds Ridley and Lucy takes Penn out. He’s shocked, not having expected Lucy to find him. She just grins at him and that manages to distract him.

Tim doesn’t like how Penn is looking at Lucy and he is determined to find him. “Why does he always have to flirt with my fiancé? He never uses his cop eyes for anything.” He isn’t happy.

Lucy chuckles. “Baby, I’m all yours. You don’t need to be jealous. Plus, we can use that to our advantage.” With it being just them, she gives him a lingering kiss. “Now let’s go kick our rookies asses so we can make them pay for lunch and you can take your very hot fiancé home.” Tim has images flash through his head, wishing he could find a quiet spot to ravish her now.

Round two starts and it lasts a bit longer. Ridley manages to take Tim out, which makes him mad. He let his lingering thoughts distract him. “Sorry Sergeant.” Lucy manages to take him out.

Penn is out there somewhere, but Lucy manages to find him not even five minutes later. See, she is switching her locations up, but he seems to be staying in the same spot. They immediately jump into round three. After thirty minutes, Tim and Lucy’s eyes meet. Ridley thinks he found a good spot, but they have found him. Lucy throws something to distract him while Tim takes him out. Penn comes behind Tim to shoot him. Tim wants to groan again. His victory was short-lived. Lucy, of course, gets Penn right back. At this point, they’ve already won three out of five. They will still play two more rounds, but the rookies know they’re screwed. They severely underestimated Tim and Lucy.

For the fourth round, both Tim and Lucy stay hidden. They both manage to take the rookies out once again. They high five. “You’re the best partner ever.” Tim winks. Lucy blushes and wishes this was over.

“Last round. You two want to give up yet?” Lucy looks at them. They have paintball all over them. Lucy is completely clean and Tim has some.

“We have one round left. Maybe our TO’s will go easy.” They both laugh and shake their heads. “I should have known better.”

Tim and Lucy come up with a different plan for the last round. She manages to get Ridley and then Penn flashes before her. He is distracted by the flashes of sun hitting off her ring and Tim takes advantage. He let his guard down.

“We won fair and square.”

Penn looks defeated. “I really thought we would have a shot.”

“You need to use your cop eyes boot.” Tim tells him after they’ve handed the guns back in.

Lucy looks at them. “And perhaps do you research or just pay better attention to your surroundings.”

Out of habit, Tim’s arm wraps around Lucy’s waist. Both rookies gasp. “Wait, what?” Ridley’s eyes go wide.

Lucy speaks before Tim. “First of all, Tim was my TO and then I was his aide.” Neither of them knew that. “We have always worked well together and are always in sync. He’s now my fiancé. We have always been the best team and he’s the best TO there is.”

“How did we miss this?” Ridley hisses to Penn who looks like a deer in headlights.

“Oh, I’m…okay.” Penn can’t find the words.

“You’re regretting ever flirting with your TO’s fiancé, aren’t you?” They all have grins on their faces.

“Every second of it.” He says honestly.

“You two can be great cops, but you have a lot to work on. Tim and I have played paintball together since my rookie days, especially after the hard days. It’s been fun.”

“Well, I have never seen two people work so well together. I see why Bradford and Chen are talked about in the department.”

This surprises both of them. “It’s nothing bad, sir. We hear about you rookie days and we didn’t believe it until we actually saw it.”

Lucy sees how jealous Tim still is. “You two owe us lunch.”

“Absolutely.” Ridley will pay since Penn handled paintball. Tim and Lucy take them to their favorite burger place down the street.

“So will we ever live this down?” Ridley asks

“Not for a while.” Lucy shrugs. “I’m the only one not riddled with paint.”

“How did you get so good?”

Tim answers. “She had the best teacher who managed to get distracted by her today.” His face goes red.

“Well, you’re a very lucky man.” Penn realizes his words.

“Oh I am well aware. She’s the greatest person in this world.”

Lucy takes his hand in her own. “Plus, you two really thought you could beat the Mid-Wilshire shooting champ? What am I up to now, Tim, five years now?”

“Mhm. You beat Angela who held the record for years. No one comes close to you anymore.”

“They’ve never said a name, but you’re a legend. Can you show me any tricks?” Penn and Ridley would love to learn from her.

Ridley needs to do better. “Maybe. It depends on you and how you handle things. Now, we finished lunch, I hope you two enjoy your days off before you find out your punishment come Monday morning.” They both groan, but they all head their separate ways.

Tim isn’t thinking and pushes Lucy against his truck to kiss her. The rookies turn away, feeling like they are the kids in this relationship.

Lucy and Tim very much enjoy their days off. By the time roll call comes Monday morning, the rookies hope they won’t have to think about paintball.

Grey pulls out a bucket of popcorn. “Now we are going to watch a video. Be prepared to be entertained.”

The video plays and the rookies want to crawl into a giant hole. The others chuckle seeing Tim and Lucy kicking their ass. “Now onto your punishment for losing this bet.” Lucy and Tim are both beside Grey.

“I guess there’s no chance you’ll go easy.” They both groan when Smitty walks in. “Oh no.”

”Smitty’s RV is in need of cleaning both inside and outside. You can wear a hazmat suit.” Tim grins as he pulls something out. It’s their faces after they lost, full of paint, on a T-shirt.

”Everyone is getting one of these two.” The rookies never lived this down.
