Work Text:
Tim is already pretty agitated today with his rookie. Penn is giving him a headache. It’s week three of his rookie year and he just can’t seem to get a clue. The morning hasn’t been the worst, but he did scare a mom and baby half to death by banging on their door after he told him not to. “Try not to screw up any more today.” Tim spats out.
“I’m sorry sir.” Penn is already on Tim’s bad side and he knows that he screwed up again. Hopefully their next call goes smoothly.
As they drive along, another call does in fact come in. It’s a call to a bank, which is normally never a good thing. “Attach us to that call.” Tim tells Penn. He flips the lights on and they make their way to the bank. They are the first to arrive on scene. There is a small crowd it seems and then they hear yelling from inside.
“Police.” Tim pushes his way through. Nolan shows up and he has him push the crowd back. There seems to be a crowd in the bank, but there’s nothing out of the ordinary or so they see.
They walk further in to find a man zip tied on the ground. Both of them share a look wondering what exactly happened. “Police, what is going on?” Suddenly there’s a woman in front of them who looks to work there.
“This man tried to rob his poor grandma.” Tim’s eyebrows furrow.
“Okay, what exactly happened here?” Tim waves around and sees that the man looks pretty disheveled.
“We beat him with our purses.” One of the older ladies chimes in. There seems to be a group of three older women who look very proud of themselves after what they did.
He points to an office so that he can speak to the manager. “Lucy, what did you do?” He whispers when they’re alone. His wife, his badass, wonderful wife, definitely played a large part in this.
“Tim, he tried to take his grandmother’s money. We said no and put a stop to it. He got mad and the others attacked. When he tried to run, I used the hair takedown you showed me. You’d be so proud of me baby.” She grins.
He shakes his head but a smile forms. “I am proud of you, but you also need to be careful. He could have hurt you.”
“Babe, the old ladies kicked him in plenty of places to make it so he couldn’t walk out of here. Why don’t we review the video? Also, is the man you walked in with your rookie?”
Tim sees Penn getting statements from the rest, almost begging for help. “It sure is. Why?”
“Well, he doesn’t pay great attention to his surroundings now does he? And I felt him staring at my ass.” Tim might just kill him. There’s a knock on the door and they see Penn standing there.
Thankfully, Lucy is sitting at her desk pulling up the cameras. Tim is standing there with his arms crossed. “We’re about to review the surveillance footage.” Penn walks over and Lucy finds what she is looking for. It’s fun to watch Tim try not to touch her.
“Here we are.” Tim and Penn both see the three older women start hitting him and have to try not to laugh. Tim watches Lucy take the man down.
“Damn, you came in hot.” Penn looks at her. “Where did you learn that?”
Lucy watches Tim squirm a bit. She knows all of his expressions and he is jealous. “I have had a lot of self defense training.”
“Oh really?” Penn grins. “I’m more than happy to have you show me your moves.”
Lucy wants to laugh but decides against it. “I think I’m okay, Officer Penn.” He clearly has a moment because he wonders how she knows his name. “You’re wearing a name badge.”
“Oh, uh, yes.” He stutters out.
She shakes her head. “I’ll make you a copy of this for your reports.”
“You seem to know a lot of police procedures. Come to think of it, some of your moves remind me of things we’ve learned in the academy.”
Lucy shrugs. “I’ve had some training by a police officer. One of the best teachers I’ve ever had.” Tim’s face stays stoic but she knows that is feeding his ego and she can’t wait for tonight. It’ll be a lot of fun. “The teachers in the LAPD seem pretty great. Maybe you can find your own, if not your TO, and learn a thing or two about handling certain situations.”
Penn raises his eyebrows. “What do you mean?”
“I mean the way you talk to people and maybe you shouldn’t check women out at crime scenes. I was also taught to pay attention to my surroundings very closely.”
“Sorry ma’am. I meant no harm.” Penn is embarrassed.
“You’ve been very helpful, both of you. Thank you for reassuring some of my customers, Officer Penn.” At least she noticed that.
“You’re quite welcome.” He grins and Tim sends him a glare. “Try to stay out of trouble.”
“Oh, that won’t be a problem.” Lucy winks and they walk out. Tim turns back and wiggles his eyebrows at her. She goes to talk to her staff and customers. Thankfully, the incident didn’t disrupt too much and they went back to business as normal.
When Tim gets home that night, Lucy is waiting in their bedroom. She has very little clothing on. “What did I do to deserve this?”
“For just being you. Although it was fun to brag about you even if your rookie didn’t know who I was referring to.” He kisses her softly and groans when she kneels down on the floor in front of him.
The next day, Lucy promises a visit at lunch. She has the day off and is very excited to see him. She just has to wrangle the kids. Their twin boys are three years old, Liam and Logan. Their baby girl, Lana, is seven months old. The boys are very excited to see their daddy. They didn’t get to see him the day before and they miss him. “Are you two ready to go?”
Lucy finishes packing the diaper bag. Lana is smiling in her arms and clapping when her brothers do. “Yes mama!”
She manages to get all three kids into the car. With Disney music on, they are all happy as can be. “Going to see dada!” Logan cheers.
“Yes baby, we’re going to see daddy.”
Lucy arrives at the station and parks her car. Tim texted her to let her know that he was in his office. She straps Lana into the carrier and the boys each take one of her hands. The diaper bag is on her back. “You two need to be careful.” Logan and Liam hold her hands tightly.
“Can we run to daddy?” Liam smiles brightly.
“No Liam, you can’t. It’s a police station and there’s a lot going on.” Both boys sigh.
They make their way inside. Officer Penn catches her eye. “Lucy right?” She has three kids with her and he has a lot of questions.
“Yes. I’m actually-” Suddenly, the boys eyes light up.
“Daddy.” She lets go of their hands and they both run to Tim.
Penn looks at them go and then sees the two boys run into his arms. His eyes go wide. “There’s my favorite people.” Tim walks over with both boys in his arms.
“This is your wife and kids?” Penn looks at the boys and they are exact replicas of their dad.
Tim gives him a look. “Clearly.”
“Daddy, you’re silly.” Liam giggles.
“You’re silly.” Tim tickles his tummy and he laughs. Penn is quite surprised.
Lucy walks closer with Lana smiling at her daddy. “I told you I had the absolute teacher.”
Penn looks at her face. “I…yes you did.” He doesn’t even know what to say, but he feels like he should run. Instead he’s frozen in place.
“I suggest that you learn everything that you can from him. He really is amazing at his job. I’m not just saying that because he’s my husband either.”
“I plan on learning everything that I can from him.” He looks at Lucy nervously. “And I’m very sorry for yesterday.
“No worries Penn. Although you may have to worry about your TO. Hitting on his wife and staring at her ass aren’t appropriate. You shouldn’t be doing that to anyone.” Lucy hopes that gets through to him.
“Yes ma’am. I will do a better job of that.”
Tim comes over to Lucy and takes Lana from her. The boys are now with Grey and Aaron. “Hi baby.” He kisses her cheek, not caring who’s around. Lana screeches and he gives her a kiss too.
“I think someone is a daddy’s girl.” Penn muses.
Lucy snorts. “One hundred percent. Daddy comes around and that’s the only person who matters.” She looks at Tim who’s rolling his eyes. “How about we go grab lunch?”
The boys cheer and walk with Grey and Aaron outside. “You’re the best husband and daddy.” She whispers as they walk with Lana.
“And I have a badass wife. Grey asked me if you’d like a job after seeing your takedown.”
Lucy laughs. “I think I’ll stick with banking and leave the policing to you.” Tim kisses her head. “But I will most definitely use the handcuffs on you.”
She pinches his ass and he has to stifle a groan. That night she does use them as promised. Nine months later they have a fourth child, another little girl named Layla. Penn and Aaron were now the favorite uncles and they couldn’t even be mad. He learned from his mistakes and the kids loved to arrest their uncles.
