He's shaking, I realize, and I wrap my arms around him instantly. It feels too familiar, like we're back in that dark cell, filthy and in pain and so dehydrated we can't even muster tears anymore. Bodhi twists his upper body towards me, his turn to bury his face in my neck, his breathing quick and shallow. He's so much bigger now, a man, not a boy, but he's still my little cousin. Mine to protect, since there is no one else left to do it.
"Shit, Bodhi." My voice cracks. "I'm so sorry. You did so well. You did well, I promise. She's alright. You saved her."
His tears are hot against my skin, and I stare into space over his head. Sgaeyl has retreated in my mind to give us time, wrapping up her own rage tightly, simply bleeding comfort over our bond, a steady presence when I need her.
