If Only They Talked

Summary:

Shortly after starting college classes, the once inseparable couple became cold and distant. Their roommates were the ones that heard all of the drama that stirred between the two. This was so childish and ridiculous.

A.K.A., Reo and Nagi broke up, Isagi and Chigiri are the collateral damage who mends them back together.

Notes:

I never know if I can really capture a character that well, especially in writing. So this is probably going to be OOC, I dunno.

Chapter 1: How It Started

Summary:

The mess of how Reo and Nagi even broke up in the first place. Isagi and Chigiri really wish they weren't pulled into this mess. Well, Chigiri is kind of here for the drama, but Isagi just wants to see his teammates happy.

Notes:

Hey Blue Lock fandom! So, I've been reading the manga since early 2023 and I was trying my best to not have Shipping Brainrot take over how I saw a shounen sports anime...

Then it took me two god damn years to realize how canonically fruity these guys really are. So lesson learned; sometimes it's not your Shipping Brainrot, it's actually pretty gay! I just got to the U-20 match in the manga, so if you're an anime only, you should be fine.

Chapter Text

Reo and Nagi came from the same high school. Reo saw the potential in Nagi's soccer skills while Nagi was just being dragged along in his dream. It was natural as time went on, the two became more comfortable with each other and their friendship became something romantic. Reo could not separate from Nagi because he admires his skills and status as a prodigy on the field, as well as he just can't let go of him for a single second. Nagi couldn't separate from Reo because he had grown too reliant on him to take him everywhere and to bring him food when he was too lazy (which is all of the time) and carry him when he's tired (which is, also, all of the time). Because these two were inseparable, choosing a college where he knows that both of them can apply, get accepted, and at least get Nagi to go on scholarship was crucial. Reo was pretty sure he could pull some strings to make Nagi going to the same school as him 100% possible regardless.

Blue Lock University was the one they both chose, well, Reo chose. Nagi just nodded his head and agreed to everything. The school has the best soccer team in the nation and is said to have this special program or something, Nagi wasn't exactly listening. One thing led to another and the two young men were enrolled in the school with practically all of the same classes. The only thing that they didn't have together is a room, which was fine for Nagi but irked Reo a little. It was fine, he supposed. Though, Reo quickly became friends with his roommate, Hyouma Chigiri. He didn't mind if Reo had his boyfriend over, even if it were for hours and hours. Nagi quickly became accustomed to living with Yoichi Isagi, who would see him in his dorm for a maximum of 2 hours a day, 3 if he were lucky, and that's not counting the amount of hours he sleeps. Everything was fine until this big fight broke out between the lovebirds.

"You're calling me a big baby?!" Reo was so offended, as if he were clutching his pearls.

"Yeah, you are so needy and whiney all of the time." Nagi didn't raise his voice, not yet, not while he's simultaneously playing a game. His eyes were lidded like Garfield and glued to his phone as he held it like a gaming controller. He didn't even spare to look up at Reo who was red in the face.

"Oh, like you don't have me piggy-back you everywhere and remind you that you need to eat and drink?!" Reo grabbed Nagi's phone from his hands and turned it off. Nagi was in the middle of a ranked match, which was going pretty well, so he quickly reached for his phone. Reo swapped the hand that it was in and extended his arm further away from Nagi.

"Give that back!" Nagi tussled with Reo to get his phone back. Running around in circles, hiding it behind his back, and even tossing it somewhere soft to make Nagi go and grab it himself, if he could find it.

"I was in the middle of a match!" Nagi finally found his phone and turned it back on, discovering that he was disconnected from the match.

"And I was in the middle of talking to you. All you do is play video games when you're not on the field!"  Reo scoffed as he watched him try and connect to a new match, "Why don't you just pay more attention to me instead of those games?"

"Because sometimes relaxing with a game is better than your nagging. God, you're so annoying." Nagi just shut his phone off and tucked it in his back pocket out of frustration once he couldn't connect to another match, or at least not one he thought was worth it.

"Oh, so you think I'm annoying?" Reo crossed his arms.

"Yeah! You drag me to places I don't want to go, wake me up in early hours of the morning to go on runs I don't even want to do-"

"Well you need to do more than just waste your life stuck to a screen." Reo cut him off.

"You need to do more than just pull people into your dreams like you're some kind of main character out of a manga."

"At least I have aspirations. At least I want to do something with my life, make something of myself. I'm just trying to help you."

"I don't need help! I'm literally only here because you made me get into socce-"

"And you like it, right? I've seen you start to genuinely have some fun around here!"

"Oh my god, just let me talk, Reo..." Nagi started to raise his voice at this point.

They just kept going back and forth, bringing up all kinds of stupid and unnecessary stuff. It had ended with Nagi leaving Reo's dorm room, where Chigiri had walked in mid-argument and sat quietly in the corner unbothered and unnoticed. He was actually listening the entire time to gather information. The end of their bickering was something along the lines of; "Don't meet me downstairs in the morning and don't try to pick me up at my dorm" "I don't even want to see you right now" "fine!" "fine!" then Nagi walked out the dorm.

"He is so ridiculous! I don't want to talk to him at all right now!" Reo slams his door shut to then turn around and finally notice Chigiri just chilling in the corner on a beanbag, "how long have you been here?" He froze.

"Long enough to know that what you just had, was a breakup." Chigiri stated, plain and simple.

"Breakup? No- we just..." Reo stammered, not realizing what just happened.

"Well it's a break at the very least." Chigiri tossed his low ponytail from his shoulder to hang in the back.

"Oh my god, did me and Nagi just break up?" Reo's eyes widen and tears started to well up.

Chigiri sighed and got up from the beanbag to approach Reo. As he walked over, he snatched a box of tissues and placed it in Reo's hands.

"Let it out..."

Chigiri then comforted Reo through what had all just happened. From what Chigiri could gather, it was an immature fight, possibly their first one. From the outside, their relationship wasn't exactly healthy from the start. But, he's pretty sure Reo still likes Nagi, he's just annoyed at him at the moment.

Meanwhile, back at Nagi and Isagi's dorm, Nagi just huddled up in his blanket playing on his Switch for the rest of the night. Isagi was in the room and asked no questions, though he did find it unusual that Nagi had returned to their dorm so early in the evening. It wasn't until around midnight that Isagi got a whole chain of texts about what the situation was from Chigiri.
