Work Text:
Strong hands massaged Sarina’s scalp, and she felt herself relaxing. Zoé was working some sort of lotion or shampoo into her hair, with hands that felt like magic. Sabrina knew what the product was, probably; they’d discussed it beforehand, after all. But this relaxed, it was impossible to remember.
“Thank you for doing this”, she whispered silently. Zoé hummed contently.
“Of course. Though I think Juleka knows more about dyeing her hair, I’m still fairly new…”
“No, I like… like that it’s you.” Oh, close call there. Maybe she was getting too relaxed. For a moment, Sabrina tensed up, but Zoé didn’t seem to have noticed the slip-up.
“I’m glad”, she simply replied. “You’re a really good friend, you know? I like hanging out with you. And you’ll look so good with that purple streak.”
“Are you sure, though? I’m not sure what my dad will say…”
Zoé whirled around, and smiled. “He’s going to have to grow up eventually.”
She winked, a wink that went right into Sabrina’s soul.
“But maybe purple is too…” She trailed off. They had already bought the hair color, after all.
“It won’t be too much”, said Zoé. “You’ll look amazing. You’re already really cute, and the only thing that’ll make you prettier is if you look more like yourself. Believe me, I know about this.”
She giggled, and Sabrina found herself laughing along.
“Because you’re into girls?”
“Because I’m into girls.”
For a few moments, neither of them spoke, as Zoé kept touching Sabrina’s hair, massaging it, caressing it. It was heavenly.
“I… think I like someone”, said Sabrina suddenly. She wasn’t quite sure why. Something about the intimacy of hair care brought it out of her.
Chloé had never touched her hair.
“Oh?”, Zoé replied without stopping. “Someone I know? From our school?”
“Yeah”, Sabrina whispered.
“Oh, exciting!”, said Zoé. “Is it a boy or a girl?”
“It’s…” Sabrina hesitated. She’d been this close to saying “it’s you”.
“Can we maybe… not? Play twenty questions? I’m sorry, it’s still really new, and I don’t really know…”
“Hey, it’s okay”, Zoé replied. “No prying, got it.”
Zoé hummed for a bit, and Sabrina relaxed again.
“But if you want my opinion”, Zoé suddenly said, matter-of-factly, “I had a crush on someone, and I tried to hide it. But they found out… and it was actually really good. We’re close friends now.”
“Marinette, right?” Sabrina had heard the story before.
Zoé nodded. “So maybe it doesn’t need to stay that secret.”
“I guess”, Sabrina replied. “But it’s all… muddy and weird and… for the moment, it’s nice to have a secret.”
“You’re not wrong.” Zoé poured some new liquid on her hands, and continued her work. “It’s nice to have a secret, too.”
“Yeah.”
“But whoever it is, don’t keep her waiting forever. You’re quite the catch.” Zoé flashed a brilliant smile. For a second, Sabrina looked at her surprised, but with the effect of the hands on her head, she quickly settled down. That was nice of Zoé to say.
Wait, when had Zoé figured out that it was a she?
