Chapter 1: Prologue: It's fine, it's cool

Chapter Text

Bambam had been pacing in circles in that room for at least ten minutes, and, for as long as I’ve known him, it was obvious he was hiding something. The bastard was holding a bomb.

“Bambam, for God's sake!” Jinyoung exclaims, exasperated, while Bam flinches. “Spit it out already! You’re about to drill a hole in the floor.”

“I’ve lost my patience too, watching you circle that couch like it’s some kind of ritual,” Yugyeom grumbles, crossing his arms. “What is it? Did someone die? Are you sick? Did you win the lottery?”

“He screwed up,” I say firmly, narrowing my eyes and staring at the youngest. “And he doesn’t know how to tell us.”

“It’s not a screw-up,” The Thai man defends himself, finally throwing himself onto the couch. He stares at us for a moment before blurting out, “I have good news and bad news for one of you. Which do you want first?”

“Bad news for whom?” Yugyeom asks, and an uncomfortable silence takes over the room. Bambam's gaze falls on me.

I don’t want to sound full of myself, but out of everyone here, I’m the most level-headed. Very few things get under my skin. So what the hell could be so bad that it made him hesitate?

“I’m getting married,” Kunpimook confesses, and for a second, time stops. Then, the room erupts into cheers of joy.

“That’s amazing!” Jinyoung celebrates, smiling. “But where’s the bad part in that?”

I share the same doubt. Marriage is great news. Right?

Bambam clears his throat, visibly uncomfortable.

“I invited one more person to be a groomsman.”

The doorbell rings.

In a matter of seconds, reality crumbles around me. Bambam walks to the door. Jinyoung grips my shoulders as if sensing the impending disaster. And then, there he is. First, the ridiculously expensive loafers. Then, the impeccable blazer, not a single crease in sight. The watch, which probably costs more than my house. And finally, that damn arrogant smile.

Lim Jaebeom.

The man who managed to ruin my life five years ago was back. Standing tall, looking strong… and, without a doubt, as falsely straight as ever.
