How do you suppose that we've survived?

Summary:

Prompt Fill for 'Sharing Clothes' for DCU Valentines Prompt Week. Kyle's ring is depowered during a fight, and Supergirl restores his costume like she did for Clark in Return of Superman. He has conflicted feelings about this.

Work Text:

Kyle feels his suit reconstructing itself around him, Supergirl’s telekinesis and whatever other powers hide behind her Superman-esque facade rolling over his skin. It almost tickles in the weirdest way, like a swarm of cotton-winged moths brushing his skin. He’d only been exposed for a moment after his ring was depleted before she flew open and put a hand on his shoulder.

The suit fits snug on him, similar to the one from his ring but not quite constructed identically. The shoulder is a bit loose and embarrassingly he can already tell this suit is going to ride up uncomfortably around the ass. He’s not sure how she made the suit- nobody else seems surprised or alarmed, but Kyle knows she’s a shapeshifter. Is he.. wearing her?

He makes awkward, anxious eye contact with Supergirl as she turns back to look at him before flying off to help the others, and she winks at him and does a little wave. He feels hyperaware of the strange cloth of the suit touching him everywhere. He has no clue what to— how to even ask any of the many questions he has. How did she do that? What is it made of? Can she feel what the clothes feel?

He trails behind her, joining her and Donna as they clean up wreckage and lead injured civilians to safety. He finds his eyes straying to her over and over again, watching as he finds himself with more and more questions. Her hair seems to move only with her own actions, completely protected from the weather around her. If he didn’t know better, he might think she had her own ring, generating a field around her just like his and Donna’s.

He’s eternally grateful to himself for actually wearing clothes under his suit this time. If he hadn’t, and she can feel what the clothes.. feel.. there would be nothing between them, in an odd sort of way.
