Work Text:
Buck had always been the type to get excited about things. He felt everything so deeply, loved so fully, and when he got an idea in his head, there was no stopping him.
Tonight was no different.
The moment he learned about the meteor shower, his mind was set. He and Tommy were going to watch it together. He pulled out his phone during a lull at work, opening the message thread with Tommy. They're both on shifts today but Buck couldn't contain his excitement and found his thumbs tapping quickly.
- babe
No response. He waited a few seconds before sending another.
- baby
Still nothing. His knee bounced, impatience bubbling in his chest.
- my love
Nothing.
A small pout formed on his lips as he typed again.
- tommy kinard.
His phone vibrated, and Buck grinned as he saw Tommy’s name light up his screen.
- Tommy ♡ : yes baby
There it was—that familiar warmth in his chest, that fondness that settled deep in his bones. He could practically hear Tommy’s voice, low and amused, like he already knew Buck was up to something.
- there's a meteor shower tonight
- it's around after midnight
- but we HAVE to go see it
The dots appeared, then disappeared. Tommy was bubbling him. Buck bit his lip, waiting.
- Tommy ♡ : we both have morning shifts tomorrow
Buck huffed. That wasn’t a no.
- but we don’t have to go anywhere!! just the backyard
- pleaseeeee?
Silence stretched for a moment, and Buck chewed on his bottom lip. He knew Tommy. Knew that even though he liked to grumble about needing sleep, he could never say no to Buck when he really wanted something.
Finally—
- Tommy ♡ : okay fine
- Tommy ♡ : you know i can't say no to you
Buck’s heart did a little flip reading Tommy’s reply. A wide grin spread across his face—so bright and obvious that the others at the station started throwing him questioning looks. He quickly typed back, "YAY LOVE YOU <3", and almost immediately, his phone buzzed with a similar reply.
Buck pressed his phone to his chest, giddy warmth spreading through him. Now he just had to survive the rest of his shift.

By the time Tommy walked down the stairs that night, Buck had already set up a blanket in the backyard, anticipation buzzing under his skin. He turned to see Tommy standing in the doorway, wearing Buck’s hoodie, the sleeves slightly tight around the biceps. The hood was pulled up, his arms crossed, eyes still heavy with exhaustion.
“This better be worth it,” Tommy grumbled, voice thick with sleep.
Buck bit back a laugh. Tommy had convinced him he needed a nap after work so he could “fully focus” on the meteor shower. But the way he was swaying slightly, his hair a little mussed—yeah, Buck knew he was still half-asleep. Tommy was most certainly not a night owl.
“You look adorable,” Buck teased, stepping forward to tug him outside. “Come on.” Tommy let himself be led, grumbling under his breath, but he didn't resist.
The night air was crisp, wrapping around them as they settled onto the blanket. Tommy immediately gravitated toward Buck’s warmth, their legs tangling together like second nature. Buck grabbed another blanket and draped it over them, cocooning them in warmth.
Tommy laid close, one hand tucked behind his head, the other resting gently on Buck’s thigh beneath the covers. He couldn't fight off the sleep quite yet, so his eyes slipped half-closed, lulled by the quiet night and the sound of their mixed heartbeats.
The sky stretched above them, a canvas of stars blinking softly. The world was quiet, peaceful, but Buck found himself more drawn to the man beside him than the view above. He propped himself up on an elbow, gaze tracing over Tommy’s face—his slightly furrowed brows, the way his lashes fluttered as he fought off sleep.
Buck reached out, absentmindedly tracing invisible constellations along Tommy’s arm, his fingertips trailing soft patterns against warm skin. His voice was a quiet murmur as he named them, his gaze flicking between Tommy’s face and the path his fingers traced.
Tommy took a deep breath and hummed, eyes slipping closed for a moment. “Are you even watching the sky?” Buck’s lips curled into a teasing smile. “I have a better view right here.”
Tommy huffed a small laugh, shaking his head, but he didn’t pull away. He opened his eyes slightly, watching Buck’s focused gaze on his arm and couldn't help reaching up, fingers threading gently through Buck’s curls, a slow, lazy motion that made the younger sigh into the touch.
As they bask in the quiet intimate moment, suddenly a streak of light shot across the sky. Buck gasped, eyes going wide and swiftly sat up after nudging Tommy. “Quick! Make a wish!”
Tommy barely managed to sit up, but he let out a soft sigh and did as Buck asked, his eyes closed, his hand finding its way to Buck’s and tightening his fingers around it. The younger instantly melted into the touch, like Tommy's presence alone was enough to make his wish come true.
After a while, Tommy turned his head slightly, gaze lazy but affectionate. “What did you wish for?” he asked softly. Buck grinned, turning his entire body to face his boyfriend, pressing a kiss to Tommy’s knuckles. “If I tell you, it won’t come true.”
Tommy exhaled a quiet chuckle, but he didn’t ask again. He just pulled Buck closer, letting their hands rest against his chest, his heartbeat strong beneath Buck’s palm. They held each other close throughout the night, warm and safe. Tommy was exhausted, and Buck was going to be impossible to wake up in the morning, but neither of them minded.
They didn’t need to say their wishes out loud.
Because deep down, they both knew—they had wished for the same thing. To be together for a long time. To grow old side by side, under the same stars.
And if their wishes had any say in it, then that was exactly what was going to happen.
