Work Text:
Bode has always known, objectively, that it is possible for two people to have identical presences in the Force. There is, after all, still only so many things that can be compared in a galaxy with an immeasurable number of sentients living in it.
They are much like fingerprints– they are lauded as unique, and for the most part they are, but there is a one in several million chance for another of your species to have the same print and there are quadrillions if not quintillions of sentients living in the galaxy. Except there is no division by species when it comes to presences, because it is immaterial and that one-in-many-millions chance grows.
Of course, it is still an incredible rarity to come across and most would never know the differences outside of a Force-sensitive, but it happens. In theory. With how far-flung sentients are, across hundreds of species and thousands of planets and even more cultures, Jedi usually would not think twice about similar presences without consistent contact with at least one of a set, or if they were miraculously side-by-side and the resonance was clear.
Bode has never knowingly come across twinned signatures before, regardless of all the years he has tried to memorize and catalogue those of targets, enemies, and anyone else the ISB had interest in so that he would never be caught off-guard if he ever came across them again.
And then there is Cal Kestis, all woodsmoke-stained sunlight and the faint tingle of blood-iron and spices.
He wants to know why, of all the people he has hurt and all the targets he has faced, it must be Cal Kestis whose presence in the Force he recognized before they ever met.
Why must he be cursed with the knowledge that, for all the sentients in this horrid galaxy, it is Cal Kestis that feels exactly the same as Tayala?
