Work Text:

It had been a long day. Xie Lian was helping with a framing, only to watch them get murdered. Not only that, but he was blamed for the murder by his own collegue, Shi Qingxuan, the wind god. He was very upset about that. Thankfully though, he wasn’t bordered to his palace and could just stay home with Hua Cheng. Not that they knew that he lived there with him, but they know he had a home other than the palace.

As soon as he got home, he called for Hua Cheng.

No answer.

He searched around the house to see if he was praying or sleeping, but he was no where. He started to panic a bit, when he saw a letter on the kitchen bench.

”Dear Hua Cheng, King of The Ghosts,” (and it was basically threatening Hua Cheng to battle him.)

Xie Lian went straight into a panic. Who was threatening to kill Hua Cheng and his kingdom? Was Hua Cheng hurt? Did he need help?

The brunette man fell to the floor and hugged his knees. He couldn’t have stopped the tears in time once they fell immediately. He could already barely breathe. As the minutes went on, his cries turned into sobs, turned into wails and his breathing was just as bad.

Is he hurt? Is he dead? I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe, I can’t-

His thoughts were cut short when he felt a large hand on his hand, which he hadn’t realized was tangled in his hair. His own hand was gently pulled away by the bigger hand, and he made just enough effort to look up at the person. It was Hua Cheng, who had cuts all over his face. They were more like scratches though, but it still worried Xie Lian.

Lian began to panic more, reaching up to Hua Cheng’s face. Hua Cheng let it happen, with the exception that he grasped the older’s face to help him calm down.

“Shhh, it’s alright, I’m alright, he’s gone..” He worded, rubbing his lovers face and wiping away falling tears.

“W-what happened? What is this letter? Are you severely hurt anywhere?-“ He was struggling over his own words. Hua Cheng was quick to help back to the ground where he had been sobbing for dear god knows how long.

“He just wanted to take over the ghosts homes, is all. I’m fine, of the exception of a few minor cuts. I truly am fine, Gege..” Hua Cheng shushed. He hasn’t seen Gege cry in years. Maybe a decade. So it was quite upsetting to see his beloved so upset himself. He ran fingers through gege’s hair, soothing him and trying to lull him to rest.

Soon enough, Xie Lian fell asleep on Hua Cheng, the black-haired man allowing him so. they sat there, Xie Lian sleeping now peacefully with the occasional sniffle, Hua Cheng running fingers through his hair. His head hurt now.
